Our Physical Therapists work closely with our physicians here at Beacon Orthopaedics creating a team approach to orthopaedic care. With this team approach, patients receive a well rounded treatment plan specialized to them. Position Summary:
A Beacon physical therapist has the responsibility and the opportunity to evaluate and treat a diverse patient population from youth patients to the high level athlete and beyond. This individual will demonstrate professionalism and knowledge on varying diagnoses and treatment plans, both for operative and non-operative patients. They will be responsible to provide next level care and educate the patient and their family on the rehabilitative process. A Beacon physical therapist is required to bring innovative treatment ideas, the latest research and evidence based manual and exercise techniques and demonstrate sound ability to communicate with staff members and physicians. A Beacon physical therapist will take great responsibility for getting patients back to their prior level of function. This individual must demonstrate energy, positivity and a willingness to make a difference in the lives of each one of our patients
Position Responsibilities/Standards:
General
  • Attend department, clinic or company meetings as required
  • Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns
  • Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members.
  • Consistently demonstrate ability to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner in order to meet current needs, such as reprioritizing work as necessary.
  • Attend required annual in-service programs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all company policies and procedures including delegation of authority as outlined in the Physical Therapist Kentucky Administrative Regulations Code: 201 KAR 22:053 and the Ohio Administrative Code 4755-27-03: Delegation.
  • Adheres to established facility safety requirements and procedures to ensure a safe working environment. Identifies potentially unsafe situations and notifies supervisor
Supervision of activities including:
  • Must supervise scheduling patients for treatment and evaluation.
  • Must supervise use of volunteers who may assist in their area.
  • Must supervise Student Physical Therapists/ PT Assistants in their area
Evaluations
  • Responsible for evaluation of all patients referred for physical therapy
  • Responsible for completion and submission of all reports pertaining to the evaluation.
  • Must be able to assess and interpret evaluation and test results to ensure quality care.
Treatment
  • Must practice physical therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and standards of Practice and the company’s standards of practice.
  • Must maintain a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the facility.
  • Must confer with the persons most closely associated with the active management of the patient and to keep them informed of any additional patient needs, treatment modification and/or progress.
  • Must treat patients of all ages, race, creed, gender and disability without bias or prejudice.
  • To respect and understand the patient’s right to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decision.
  • To practice ethical responsibility based on the cultural, ethnic and religious beliefs of the patients served and applicable law.
Records and Reports
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of reports, assuring confidentiality of all records including:
    • Evaluation reports/summaries
    • Discharge reports/summaries
    • Progress reports to referring physicians and agencies
    • Current progress notes on all patients
    • Special reports requested by the administrator
    • Daily attendance records/ summaries.
Meetings and Conferences
  • Must attend monthly clinic meetings
  • Must maintain CEU requirement through conferences and courses
Professional Status and Public Relations
  • Must keep abreast of new techniques and trends in the field of physical therapy
  • Must attend conventions, meetings or special courses whenever possible and must share with personnel information gained thereby.
  • To prepare and give talks to community groups as requested.
  • To maintain good public relations with all community sources
. Performance Requirements
  • Must delegate (with the approval of the supervisor and/or director) portions of the above duties to personnel in line with the best use of time and experience of such personnel.
  • Must assist with recruitment of applicants for positions
  • Must orient new personnel to the program and procedures.
  • Must evaluate and report at regular intervals, the work of other employees, student, or volunteers in their area of the facility.
  • Must plan for future improvement in procedures and organization of the company/facility.
  • Must assist the supervisor and/or director in planning any new programs to be developed within the facility and/or company
  • Must keep current and adhere to police and procedures of the company
  • Must assist the supervisor/ director with the revision of any procedures with facility personnel as necessary.
  • Must actively participate and adhere to all policies and procedures as enumerated in the risk management program.
  • Must review any procedures with facility personnel as necessary.
  • Responsible for interpreting and carrying out the prescription of the physician.
  • Responsible for maintaining good public relations.
  • Responsible for protection of confidential data
  • Responsible for economic use of time, equipment, and supplies.
  • Responsible for safety and welfare of patients and other employees.
Education/Experience Required:
  • Must be a graduate of an approved school of PT
  • Must have, or be eligible for state licensure or registration. Registration must be obtained within on year, or per state law.
  • Must know the principles and practice of PT, be familiar with the APTA Code of Ethics, company polices, procedures and regulations, layout of the facility, inter and intra facility communications, supervision and management techniques.
  • Must be able to apply the theory of PT.
  • Must have ability and competency to operate the equipment of his or her position, perform technical procedures, speak intelligently and in a professional manner before other, supervision and management skills.
  • Must consult with patients to learn about their physical condition and symptoms
  • Must be able to educate patients on home programs to continue to maintain their results from PT.
  • Must be able to instill confidence in patients, doctors and personnel.
  • Must be able to determine proper procedure and methods and evaluate results, must make decisions on his or her own.
  • Must be able to adapt to emergency situation.
  • Must be alert to changes in the patient’s condition and all activities of the facility and company.
  • Must have a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescription, in receiving and translating information and in charting and reporting.
  • Must have coordination of sight and body movements in various applications of procedures; techniques of assisting and handling patients; ability to handle the tools and machines of the profession.
  • Must be a graduate of, or have a certificate from, and American Physical Therapy Association approved school of PT; or a school approved by the World Congress of PT
  • Must have current state licensure/registration
  • Must have CPR certification
  • Must have continuing or post-graduate education consistent with the scope and needs of the major patient population of the facility.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push and kneel. Ability to demonstrate exercises properly without limitations. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs.
