Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing and collecting blood, urine and tissue samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May perform in house laboratory services such as but not limited to UA dips, HA1C, blood glucose monitoring, coagulant levels, pregnancy etc.

Essential Job Funtions:
  • Assemble equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection devices, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray, according to requirements for specified tests or procedures.
  • Verify or record identity of patient or donor.
  • Draw and collect blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May prick finger to draw blood.
  • Send specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in house.
  • Maintain proper documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, equipment records and checklists.
  • Identify problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and take appropriate action, including supervisor notification.
  • Order and maintain supply levels for all equipment and services provided by laboratories.
  • Perform in house laboratory testing as directed by the practice.
  • Participate in special project and/or completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to common inquiries or complaints from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Computer Skills: Must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, Internet navigation, database management, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, and graphic presentation packages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate from accredited Phlebotomy training program
  • Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician Certification
  • One (1) year of related experience

Pay Range
$17.04 - $23.43 /hour
