Job Summary: Responsible for ensuring the proper dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies and procedures. Supports the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assists the pharmacy manager in identifying ways to optimize pharmacy financials, inventory management, employee development and enhance customer experience. Provides pharmacy consulting services to customers regarding the effective usage of medications, awareness with drug interactions and offering preventive healthcare services such as immunizations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Performs pharmacist tasks including drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications when necessitated by workload.
  • Ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance with regulations, company policies and high moral standards. Assists pharmacy manager with establishing procedures that promotes the efficient workflow of the pharmacy. Responsible for the opening and closing of the pharmacy.
  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and helping with products and services. Resolves customer issues in a timely manner and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Models and shares customer service best practices with employees to deliver a distinctive and friendly customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.).
  • Quick to learn and adapt to multiple computer software systems. Ability to multi-task constantly, react to changes quickly/productively, and tolerate interruptions.
  • Counsels patients and answers their questions regarding usage of medicine, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generics, less expensive medicines, over-the-counter products, and refers to medical provider as needed to ensure medication is taken correctly, health needs addressed, and satisfaction with service.
  • Ensures the accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve customer issues and prevent payment rejections. Follows-up with insurance companies as well as medical providers and participates in 3rd party audit.
  • Follows-up with medical providers’ offices to clarify prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies to suggest alternative medications, and answer medical provider questions.
  • Assists and supports the pharmacy manager in analyzing performance data including pharmacy financial, customer service, and implementation of procedures for pharmacy asset protection and inventory management.
  • Develops and maintains good relationships with local medical community including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Manager with staff hiring and training. Reinforces the direction of Pharmacy Manager in staff performance by coaching, and providing constructive feedback, monitoring customer service, and fostering employee development.
  • Professionalism displayed through sound judgment, initiative, and flexibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited school of Pharmacy.

Work Experience:

  • 2 years related experience.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Licensed by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy as a Doctor of Pharmacy

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Excel and basic office computer skills.
  • Ability to examine paper and electronic prescriptions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to perform all tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians and staff.
  • Ability to assist and train pharmacy staff in compliance with Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy law.

Supervisory Responsibilities: In the absence of the Pharmacy Manager.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a retail pharmacy office setting.
  • Involves frequent contact with staff and the public.
  • Contact may involve dealing with sick and/or injured persons.
  • Interaction with others may be constant and interruptive.

  • May involve dealing with angry or upset individuals.

  • Requires standing for long periods of time.
  • Requires viewing computer screen and typing for long periods.
  • Requires normal physical strength to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
  • Requires normal physical agility, which includes stooping, bending and stretching to access supplies.
  • Requires normal concentration regarding complexity and timeliness of decision making.
  • Requires normal memory, taking into consideration the amount and type of information involved.
  • Average visual acuity necessary to prepare or review documents or operate equipment.
  • Ability to speak, frequently conveying detailed or important information or ideas accurately.
  • Ability to hear normal speech, both in person and on the telephone.
