Assistant Coach, Strength and Conditioning

Summary:
The Assistant Coach, Strength and Conditioning provides expertise, guidance, and training in the area of strength training and physical conditioning for all intercollegiate athletes under the direct and day-to-day supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director, Strength & Conditioning Coach. The Assistant Coach, Strength and Conditioning will be responsible for assisting with coordinating the day-to-day operations and programs within the fitness center(s) located on the Owings Mills and Greenspring campuses.

Department: Athletics: Administrative

Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree plus 1 year of experience in intercollegiate athletics desired or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) within the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) preferred.

CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required.

Proficiency in Microsoft applications and computer use.

Valid driver license with good driving record required; must be insurable.

Knowledge and skills in the functional rehabilitation of injuries incurred from participation in competitive athletics.

Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both orally and in writing.

Basic knowledge of NCAA rules and guidelines.

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Ability to travel as needed.

Physical Requirements:
Heavy work. Physically fit for strength and conditioning related activities. Full range of physical activities including lifting, tumbling, running, throwing, kicking and jumping techniques. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, cold, and noise. Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather conditions.. Some coverage for athletic events (including practice and games) may be necessary. Some travel off campus with teams may be necessary.

Essential Functions:
Schedule strength and conditioning workouts in cooperation with the Assistant Athletic Director, Strength & Conditioning Coach and the head coach of each specific sport while maintaining appropriate records on each athlete.

Provide athletes with guidance and proper training techniques in the strength and conditioning programs

Develop in-season and out-of-season strength and conditioning programs for athletes

Comply with NCAA rules which include responsibility to oversee of that voluntary individual workouts by athletes are done safely

Assist with the management and maintenance of equipment inventory within all fitness centers located on the Greenspring and Owings Mills campuses

Provide general guidelines for nutrition, recovery, and general health practices

Serve as a resource for improving the health and wellness of the campus community

Serve as an active member in the athletic department, which includes recruiting, training, and supervising athletic department staff and students in the comprehensive strength and conditioning of student-athletes.

Attend Staff meetings as required.

Serve on committees as needed
