Job Summary:

The Payroll Accountant/Analyst is responsible for performing the activities necessary to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the payroll process at Skagit Regional Health, an integrated healthcare system. These activities include, but are not limited to, maintaining related records, filing tax reports and voluntary deduction reports, processing involuntary deductions, preparing accounting transactions and documents and reconciliation and accuracy of one or more accounts within a complex accounting system. May perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas and prepare materials for external and internal auditors.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the auditing and analytical activities involved in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of payroll.
  • Ensure garnishments and other statutory mandated deductions are processed accurately.
  • Oversees accurate payroll interfaces.
  • Inspects automated systems output such as registers and reports.
  • Prepare accounting transactions and documents.
  • Research and prepare special reports for management.
  • Develop, document and update procedures related to functional responsibilities.
  • Ensures pay rules are accurate and consistently applied.
  • Reconciles payroll auditing reports prior to bank transmission and validates confirmed reports.
  • Maintains expert working knowledge of proper taxation of employer paid benefits.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of the Kronos timekeeping system.
  • Ensures the creation of accurate and timely bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports.
  • Responsible for providing payroll data for inclusion in financial statements.
  • Completes year-end W-2 process.
  • Maintain effective working relationships across the organization.
  • Develops collaboration and ensures response to customer inquiries aligns with Departmental and organizational service standard expectations.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor degree in Accounting or related field preferred.

License/Certification:

  • Current Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other related payroll certification preferred.

Experience/Training:

  • Five (5) years’ experience in accounting strongly preferred, education may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in high volume payroll processing highly preferred.
  • Experience performing payroll accounting and payroll analyst activities in a unionized and/or healthcare environment highly preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.33 - $37.99 per hour
