Job Description:
The Patient Navigation Program Manager serves cancer centers in the Masonic Cancer Alliance (MCA) network to aid patients in accessing local, regional, and national programs, to assist patients with the financial aspects of their care. Helping patients to maximize their insurance benefits is a critical piece of the Patient Navigator's work. The navigator will also provide technical assistance to community cancer centers to enhance their financial navigation processes.

The University of Kansas Cancer Center (KUCC) is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center where patients gain access to the most promising therapies, cutting-edge clinical trials and world class research.

The starting salary for this position will be between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range listed.

Required Qualifications:
Education : Bachelor's degree combined with patient experience in social work, public health, nursing, psychology or related.

Work Experience : Experience assisting patients access financial, community and/or pharmaceutical resources.

Skills : Commitment to collaborating with underserved individuals and communities in accessing healthcare. Ability to manage stressful situations involving critically ill patients and other sensitive issues which involve finances. Strong project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education : Master's degree in social work, public health, nursing, psychology, or related field.

Work Experience : Understanding of health insurance guidelines and policies-both private insurance and Medicare and Medicaid. Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Job Duties Outlined:
Assist MCA member cancer centers in developing referral pathway for patients to financial navigation and collaborate with cancer center staff around interventions that best fit patients' medical and financial needs.

With a high level of initiative, develop and expand the financial navigation program for the MCA network.

Proactively assess the financial needs of patients, establish a positive supportive relationship, assist in developing a plan to mitigate financial distress.

Assist patient with maximizing insurance benefits; interact with Medicare, Medicaid, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and other assistance programs as an advocate for patients. Assist patients in applying for benefits and resources as eligible and appropriate.

Work closely with and communicate consistently with contacts at MCA sites to provide a cohesive support system to the patient and the clinical providers.

Stay abreast of regulations, making certain that applications are appropriate and complete to ensure that all parties receive all benefits for which the patient is eligible.

Document activities and collect data for quality and research purposes.

Provide financial navigation consultation information to MCA members who are not receiving full navigation services.

Complete other duties as assigned.
