Georgia Highlands College is a multi-campus, state college member of the University System of Georgia. Founded in 1970 as Floyd Junior College, it now serves more than 6,000 students in Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama across its five locations in Rome, Cartersville, Marietta, Dallas, and Douglasville. Job Summary


Under limited supervision, part-time tutors provide tutoring services in all levels of subject(s) for which he or she is qualified.

Responsibilities


  • Provides one-on-one and group tutorial sessions
  • Works closely with faculty to understand the needs of students
  • Performs assigned clerical duties when not tutoring

Required Qualifications


  • Proficient content knowledge in writing, as proven by transcripts
  • Ability to explain complicated and challenging concepts in specific area of discipline
  • Teaching and/or tutoring experience is desired
  • Excellent communication, people, and computer skills
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Able to motivate and encourage students
  • Willingness to communicate with staff, coaches, advisors, and professors
  • Desire to help others and the ability to deliver outstanding customer service

Proposed Salary


Commensurate with experience and education.

  • Knowledge of the principles of college-level tutoring

Part-time tutors work on an as needed basis with the possibility of renewal from semester to semester. Interviews are offered to applicants when a position becomes available and the applicant meets the qualifications. Positions are posted/removed from the system each semester/year as needed.
