THE POSITION


Experience the natural beauty of Washington County Parks and get paid to do it! Our Parks team is currently accepting applications for Park Ranger.

Scoggins Valley Park at Henry Hagg Lake offers visitors the best of outdoor recreational activities. Maintained and operated by Washington County Parks, the park features numerous day-use areas, two boat-launching facilities, a fully stocked lake for fishing, more than 14 miles of hiking trails, event areas, and an 18-hole disc golf course.

The Park Ranger works independently and interdependently to plan and implement tasks related to park maintenance, operations, programming, and enforcement of County ordinances and regulations. The ideal candidate enjoys working with a small, dedicated team of parks and recreation professionals to enhance the safety and enjoyment of Washington County's parks for the benefit of the public. The Park Ranger works outdoors in all weather conditions and provides services and information to visitors and park users. The Park Ranger will be a strong communicator and team-oriented, with a can-do attitude.

Park Rangers work five 8-hour days in the off-peak season (October-April) and four 10-hour days during peak season (May-September). The incumbent will work weekends, evenings, and holidays and may occasionally be called back to work outside of normal work hours to respond to business needs or emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience in visitor services or maintenance experience; OR
  • An Associate Degree in park and recreation administration or related field and three (3) years of experience in visitor services or maintenance experience; OR
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in park and recreation administration or related field and one (1) year of experience in visitor services or maintenance experience.

Preferred Qualifications - not required in order to qualify for this role.
  • 2+ years experience working in park-like settings or Natural Resources employment (forestry, fish and wildlife), or campground experience.
  • 3+ years experience working in customer service.

Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities and Specialty Requirements
  • Possession of a driver license valid in the State of Oregon and an acceptable driving record.
  • Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License may be required for some positions.
  • Possession of an Oregon Drinking Water Operator Certification within six months of hire.
  • Possession of a Pesticide Applicators License within one year of appointment.
  • Possession of Oregon ATV Safety Card within six months of appointment.
  • Possession of First Aid/AED/CPR Certification within six months of hire.
  • Successful completion of mandatory boater education program and possession of a boater education card issued by the Oregon State Marine Board within one year of appointment.
  • Successful completion of a background check required.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment. Job share employees are responsible for 50% of the premium. Part-time regular, variable hour, and temporary positions are not eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits.
