- 60 college credit hours or a passing score on a paraprofessional assessment test required
- Basic clerical skills including filing, keyboarding, and organizational skills
- Ability to supervise and appear relaxed with large groups of students
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Desire to help all students
- Knowledge of computer software preferred
- Exhibit emotional stability and physical stamina necessary for meeting the requirements of the position
- Provide a warm and welcoming environment for library use by providing a friendly attitude and inviting decor
- Monitor student behavior in the media center
- Read books aloud to students
- Check books in and out for students
- Dust and shelve books
- Help students and teachers locate materials, whether print, audio/visual or digital
- Process new books
- Keep books in good repair
- Create flyers for book fairs
- Provide a monthly blurb for the school's family newsletter
- Set up and run book fairs
- Prepare bank deposits from sales on book fairs
- Participate in end-of-the-year inventory
- Provide low level support for students using computers
- Performs related duties as assigned, including intervention
