SUMMARY:

· Responsible for taking dogs and cats to off-site locations to increase adoptions,

· Assists as needed in various areas of shelter operations.

· Ensure a positive public image and follows outreach dress code guidelines.

· Provides the finest customer service and adoption experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the Doggone Good Reading program.
  • Help implement any new programs for the bus.
  • Assist with delivering presentations to Marion County Public Schools, youth groups, and community organizations and coordinates humane education outreach efforts.
  • Prepares humane education materials for schools and the public and assists with outreach programs designed to further the goals of the organization.
  • Assist other departments/staff with special events, community events as needed.
  • Assist with other Humane Education duties as assigned.

· Coordinates the outreach adoption program at off-site adoption locations, including PetSmart and Pet Supermarket Monday through Sunday.

· Produces and maintain complete and accurate work records and off-site adoption reports using computerized data systems.

· Treats all animals humanely, properly, and with compassion at all times.

· Sets up crates, pens, tables, and other materials for promotional purposes.

· Loads animals into HSMC vehicle for transport to off-site locations.

· Monitors HSMC vehicles’ condition, fuel, and initiate maintenance requests.

· Always follows safe driving practices and obey all traffic laws.

· Fills in for other areas and perform other tasks/functions as needed, including assisting at special events and humane education.

· Accountable for collecting monies for adoption fees and completing proper paperwork.

· Works with the appropriate HSMC staff to select animals to take to off-site adoption locations.

· Keeps Shelter promotional/event signage up to date.

· Corresponds with Volunteer Coordinator for needs, hours, and volunteer relations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous teaching experience supervising, and training staff preferred
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent
  • Experience and comfort in delivering presentations to a variety of different age groups.

· Compassion for animals.

· Operates well both with a team and individually.

· Excellent communications skills & bubbly personality.

· Demonstrates good judgment and performs duties in a professional manner.

· Knowledge of Marion County roads.

· Ability to operate a computer, copy machine, facsimile, and answer telephones.

· Valid Florida driver’s license with a good driving history and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

· Flexibility, ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Proficiency with the Animal Shelter Manager computer program as well as Microsoft Office.
  • Experienced animal handling skills preferred.
  • Able to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Subject to work weekends and minimal holidays

· Subject to exposure of dangerous and fractious animals, bites, and scratches

· Valid Florida Driver’s license and a good driving record.

· Ability to work in an emotionally taxing field – a positive attitude and sense of humor are essential.

· Work is performed in an animal shelter. There is a potential for exposure to environmental factors such as temperature variations, high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, animal waste, strong odors, hazardous chemicals, or chemical materials requiring OSHA Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), anesthetics, sharp objects, and potentially dangerous and unpredictable animals.

· Ability to stay standing or active during an entire shift; lift and carry objects and animals up to 50 pounds; lift, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and other strenuous activities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour
