1. Demonstrates proficiency in the following:
a. Cleans, disinfects and maintains assigned areas i.e.: Operating Rooms and ancillary areas in a clean, hygienic and attractive condition as per departmental protocols and policies (inclusive of between case and after the last case of the day prior to terminal cleaning by terminal staff, ensuring readiness for any emergency procedures and terminal cleaning, as required).
b. Maintains EVS closet, cart, supplies and equipment used in performance of assigned tasks in a neat, clean and organized manner. Maintains an adequate supply of mops, cloths, chemicals, paper products, bags and liners, etc., at the end of shift.
c. Reports unsafe, damaged or broken equipment or surroundings directly to Plant Operations.
d. Adheres to the strict Infection Control Guidelines and Standards as outlined in hospital policy.
e. Cleans and disinfects sterile area around table, equipment, work tables, rolling equipment and empties trash, per defined standards and policy.
f. Handles regulated medical waste, hazardous waste, general waste and soiled linen and adheres to standards on ongoing bases.
g. Cleans sterile areas per AORN standards.

2. Assists with care provision within the surgical environment:
a. Assists with the transporting, orderliness and cleanliness of equipment storage.
b. Demonstrates a basic knowledge of the use of OR equipment.
c. Keeps equipment storage room neat and organized, per defined layout for easy equipment retrieval and to minimize equipment damage.
d. Anticipates the need for equipment based on the surgical schedule and bringing to OR room prior to the case starting.
e. Return equipment to storage room after use, keeping hallways clear of unneeded equipment.
f. Disinfects used equipment before returning it to storage.
g. Visually inspecting equipment and reporting equipment needing service to leadership and/or clinical engineering.
h. Returns OR beds in storage to neutral position with standard accessories accounted for.
i. Disinfecting and organize lead apron on rack after use.
j. Organizing fracture table accessories on the accessory cart.

3. Utilizes organizational skills to assure smooth functioning of department operations.
a. Retrieves requested equipment as required, assisting with special projects and other tasks as indicated.
b. Keeps scrub sinks stocked with hand scrub solutions, scrub brushes and masks, and keeps the scrub areas neat and clean
c. Assists with the orientation to Perioperative Assistant duties of new or transferred employees to the unit.
d. Prioritizes delegated tasks based on OR schedule.
e. Completes work/assignments within allotted time, reporting unfinished responsibilities
f. Checks inventory levels of fluid and blanket warmers on a daily basis.
g. Checks and maintains appropriate par levels for the basic cart daily.
h. Checks and maintains appropriate par levels for the linen/room closet located within the OR rooms daily.

4. Ensures the Timely Transport of Surgical Specimens to the Pathology/Lab.
a. Delivers specimens to the Pathology lab per defined schedule.
b. Documents specimen delivery and receipt on the specimen log.


Qualifications


Experience Minimum Required

  • Healthcare EVS/Housekeeping experience and/or prior experience within a medical setting
Experience Preferred/Desired
  • Previous perioperative experience in an Operating Room

Education Minimum Required
  • High School graduate
