JOB DESCRIPTION:

This full-time position offers NO WEEKENDS, NIGHTS, OR MAJOR HOLIDAYS, and is responsible for the care of adult and pediatric patients under the supervision of an allergist and an advanced practice provider. We treat patients with environmental allergies, food allergies, eczema, asthma, and immunodeficiency. We seek and employ motivated, compassionate, and talented professionals to become part of our team. Experience in allergy and immunology is not required, we are willing to train.

4 day work week (Monday-Thursday) with 1/2 day Fridays 1-2 times per month.

Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works in a fast paced office environment with multitasking required.

Greets patients and escorts them from the waiting room to exam room; takes vital signs and performs intake.

Performs spirometry, allergy skin testing, and patch testing, as ordered by provider.

Administers allergy injections to shot patients. Monitors patients’ medical status for possible adverse reaction following receipt of allergy injection. Treats patients for systemic allergic reactions, including administration of epinephrine as directed by providers.

Prepares allergy immunotherapy extracts with sterile technique.

Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment. Maintains emergency equipment, including oxygen, code cart and supplies, etc.

Performs patient education when appropriate.

Completes appropriate documentation in patient’s electronic medical record.

Assesses/evaluates patient problems over the phone, utilizing approved telephone triage protocol to determine the level of care the caller needs.

Demonstrates good clinical judgment, critical thinking skills, assessment skills, careful listening and good communication skills.

Ability to organize requirements for biologics for specialty pharmacy. This includes proper completion of all necessary paper work for ordering, billing, and reimbursement of biologics.

Collaborates with patients, colleagues and interdisciplinary team members to achieve desired outcomes.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High School Degree or GED required

Hold a current, unencumbered nursing license to practice in Iowa
