Department Overview:
Follow the normal hiring process Be at least 16 years old Be paid Hourly (eligible for Overtime) and at least at the current minimum wage (effective 7/1/2020: $14.00) Assigned 0 FTE Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in high school or college (undergraduate minimum 6 credit hours; graduate minimum 4.5 credit hours)* * hiring department is responsible for verifying student status. Student worker positions are limited in the number of hours they can work over an extended period. If you anticipate needing an employee to work an average of 30 hours or more per week over a six-month period, work with Human Resources to identify a more suitable position type.
Function/Duties of Position:
Under direct supervision, primarily performs basic research or lab activities similar to a Research Assistant 1 or Lab Aide*. Research at the OHSU-SOD will include not only basic bench work in the laboratory but also learning how to design experiments: Independently using instrumentation and performing basic laboratory techniques such as pipetting and buffering solutions with a pH meter. Generating and analyzing data from experiments and collected health surveys. The summer will include lab meetings and learning how to keep a lab notebook and daily log of activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or on vacation from or is otherwise registered in: High School, OR Undergraduate Program (minimum 6 credit hours)
  • Demonstrable record of reliable attendance, punctuality and proven successful performance Demonstrated ability to read, write and understand written and oral instructions in English.
  • Know how to use basic instrumentation in a laboratory and calculate basic math equations used to make buffers
