JOB DESCRIPTION


Summary/Objective


The MRI Tech Assistant performs a wide variety of routine duties including clerical, technical, and patient related functions. This position is responsible for assisting members of the patient care team and providing a broad range of health care services such as: patient check-in, exam review, preparation for the visit, patient education, assistance with exams and procedures, and patient transporting. The incumbent works under the supervision of the Radiology Coordinator.

Essential Functions

  • Follow all proper policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure patient safety at all times.
  • Assist technologist with setting the patient for exam and upon completion of the exam.
  • Assist with checking and receiving all prior paperwork at least one business day prior to exam.
  • Clean and stock all rooms.
  • Review all screening forms to ensure they are complete and contact the patient if they are not complete at least one business day prior to the exam.
  • Ensure all labs are complete prior to the patients arrival.
  • Communicates effectively with patients/families and all care providers
  • Adheres to established section and organizational protocols , QA guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides qualify customer service, explains all studies to patient in clear manner, and provide information to resources to patient and family.
  • Checks the order for complete information and appropriateness criteria.
  • Schedules exams as needed.
  • Obtains sufficient information to determine whether the procedure should be performed immediately or within a specific time frame.
  • Rotated within departments and locations for proper coverage.
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA and other regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Receive and process medical records daily.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment


This job operates in a professional clinical environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Exposure to a strong magnetic field, technologist must use standards of precaution when entering the magnetic environment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Ability to lift and position patients. Ability to lift transport patients, charts, and wheelchairs.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary based on MRI Operating hours Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m and Saturday 7:00am-5:00pm.

Travel

Travel between all OrthoSC locations.

Education and Experience


  • High School Diploma. Associates Degree in relevant field strongly preferred.
  • At least 1 year experience in a healthcare setting strongly preferred.
  • CPR certification required within 3 months of hire.
