Metairie Park Country Day School seeks an experienced, technologically-astute teacher who enjoys working with young people to fill the position of Middle School History Teacher. Candidate should have a passion for history as well as the curiosity of a life-long learner. The full-time, 10-month position includes a comprehensive benefits package along with all school holidays. The Middle School History Teacher reports to the Middle School Principal.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

● Teaching four to five sections of middle school history

● Teaching an occasional section of upper school history

● Developing and carrying out an age-appropriate, innovative curricula

● Serving as an advisor for a small group of middle school students

● Supervising extracurricular activities

● Performing other duties as assigned by the Head of School or division principal including lunch, recess, and study hall

● Supporting the Mission of the School and its leadership

● Integrating technology in pedagogy and the classroom

Qualifications:

● Experience teaching middle school US history and developing related curriculum

● An undergraduate degree in a related field. Masters degree preferred

● Knowledge and interest in utilizing design thinking, project-based learning or other innovative pedagogical approaches

● Demonstrates skills in team-based, collaborative projects, and initiatives

The goals of the History department is to ensure that history is taught through a diverse lens that complements the school’s mission and goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
