Meter Reader Obtains meter data on customers’ premises required for the preparation of service bills.

Job Functions:
  • Essential Job Functions: responsible for carrying out assigned duties in the required time frame for cycle readings; assigns sequence numbers to new services; rearranges meter reading routes as necessary.
  • Reads meters on a daily and/or special basis; refers consumer complaints to appropriate authority; may provide general information to customers; inspects meters and reports damage or apparent malfunctions; (and unsafe conditions); (cleaning out meter boxes) and may assist with training of new meter readers.

Equipment.
Examples of Equipment Used on the Job: Electric, gas, and water meters; meter reading devices; Communication equipment such as telephone, tablet, and computer. Printed materials such as service orders, maps, manuals, and computer printouts. Automobile. Hand tools such as a screwdriver, pliers, flashlight, keys, gas detectors, generators, pumps, hand pumps, shovels, lid handles, and other tools.

Physical and Environmental Characteristics:
  • Examples of Required Physical Activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
  • Physical Characteristics of Work: Requires extensive walking and standing. Medium work requires the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and /or up to 20 pounds o force routinely, and/or up to 10 pounds of force continuously to move objects. Will need to walk up to 20 miles per day in all kinds of weather including rain, sleet, hail, and snow. Must be able to work in all temperatures with daily ranges of -10 up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Vision Requirements: The minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with the use of measurement devices.
  • Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, rain, snow extreme heat and/or cold, noise, darkness and poor lighting conditions, and isolation. May be periodically exposed to chemical hazards i.e. paint etc.

Employment Standards:
  • Education and Experience: Diploma/GED Preferred - No experience necessary, will train.
  • Licenses and Certificates: Driver’s license issued from the state the person lives in.
  • Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: Excellent knowledge of geography and street locations in the community. Ability to walk for long periods of time under adverse conditions; ability to organize and complete a large number of work orders in an efficient and effective manner; ability to establish and maintain an effective work relationship with supervisors, team co-workers, city employees, and utility customers; ability to deal with periodic negative public contact; ability to lift and move manhole covers in order to access meter reads. Skill and accuracy in recording data.

Special Requirements:
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and registration.
  • Drug/Alcohol testing is required per Federal DOT Regulations.

Salary Range Disclaimer.
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Bermex INC. salary range for this position. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to customer contact terms, location, experience, and performance. Other rewards may include Paid Time Off, 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match, ESOP contributions, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and other region-specific benefits as eligible.

Salary Range Transparency.
For applicants residing in Georgia, the salary for this role is 15.50/hr.
