Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Meteorological and GIS team is seeking a senior position to focus on conducting wind resource analyses for development projects as well as participating in greenfield project initiation. This position will work closely with project developers and several other business units within the company ranging from finance, construction, and energy management. This role is responsible for performing wind resource assessments, helping maintain internal wind resource assessment best practices, improving team workflow efficiencies, and disseminating analysis results to the key stakeholders in the company. The position will also be responsible for working with and managing 3rd party wind consultants and their respective deliverables to the team.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provide support to other team members through analysis assistance and providing peer review reports on late-stage development production estimates
  • Aid Senior Manager, Meteorology in evaluating new process improvements or technologies to support development or operational partners and activities
  • Communicate cross functionally at Pattern to lead resource assessment best practices in development that support the de-risking of projects leading up to finance.
  • Develop and optimize layouts by interpreting project constraints and risks for core projects
  • Perform statistical analyses on large datasets from project temporary meteorological towers and remote sensing equipment.
  • Develop meteorological data campaigns to improve estimates and reduce uncertainties
  • Simulate wind flow characteristics across various projects utilizing linear and CFD models
  • Estimate project loss assumptions and P case uncertainties. Communicate results to internal and external finance teams.
  • Simulate and interpret environmental models including noise, shadow flicker, and zone of visual influence
  • Support finance and power marketing group in understanding generation profiles and risks associated with resource variability.
  • Support turbine procurement team in site suitability analysis and discussion with turbine vendors
  • Work with 3rd party groups and finance team to develop financeable assessment reports and assist in project financings
  • Perform project site visits to assess turbine siting and data measurement campaigns where applicable.
  • Review merger and acquisition wind projects in development and provide energy estimates
  • Document technical processes

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in atmospheric sciences, earth sciences, physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the renewables industry as a meteorologist or wind energy analyst
  • Professional knowledge of concepts and principles in related discipline and ability to lead others in the application of such in creation of work product.
  • Ability to solve complex analyses, understand implication of results, and communicate actionable plans for both internal to the team as well as to other business units.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to express ideas effectively and fluently.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment where teamwork and independent work ethic are essential.
  • Ability to organize time well and set proper priorities.

The expected starting pay range for this role is $90,000 USD - $122,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels.
