Mentors Needed in Wythe, Bland, Smyth, Carroll, and Galax

To provide mentoring services to at risk or seriously emotionally disturbed youth. The mentor directly interacts with severely emotionally disturbed (SED) children and adolescents. Mentors work primarily individually with their young clients, but also develop contacts with the youth’s family and other service providers. The main treatment objectives are to maintain and integrate the youth safely within community activities. Case supervision of service plan goals is received from the youth’s primary case manager. Mount Rogers Youth Services case managers provide supervision of individual mentors working with youth from their caseload.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.Works with SED/At Risk youth in their homes, in the homes of professional parents, and/or in any setting the child frequents (e.g. schools, vocational programs, recreational activities)

2.Support designated youth through working on goals established in the individualized service plan.

3.Work with case manager in reviewing needs/concerns, interests, and strengths of youth and family in order to provide delivery of comprehensive services.

4.To maintain a record keeping and data collection system appropriate to the needs of clients serviced and in accordance with regulatory standards, including but not limited to Medicaid and CSA requirements. Completes documentation, as required, on a daily basis.

5.Reinforces appropriate behavior of children through social interaction, education, redirection, and role modeling.

6.Participates in treatment team staffing, school staffing, and clinical staffing as requested. Presents data/impressions regarding the child’s behavior in order to provide an objective measure of behavioral change.

7.Provides appropriate transportation and activities for clients without further compensation or reimbursement for costs or mileage.

8.Attends staff meetings, training and staff development activities, as required.

Minimum Requirements


Requisite knowledge, skills and abilities comparable to that of a high school graduate with documented experience in human services.

Valid Virginia Driver’s License and copy of DMV safe driving record required

Mount Rogers Community Services, in following current CMS regulations, requires all New Hires to be fully Vaccinated against COVID 19 or have a religious or medical exemption approved no later than the date of employment.
