Position Specific Responsibilities

Summary of Responsibilities

Consults and provides clinical psychology services to students, faculty and staff. Administers diagnostic tests and performs diagnostic evaluation as appropriate. Provides individual, couple, or group therapy. Collaborates with professional colleagues to coordinate effective treatment regimens. Refers clients for other appropriate services. Instructs and guides mental health trainees. Oversees coordination of one (1) or more public and/or social program(s), conducts campus outreach activities, and provides professional presentations.



Essential Functions

Provides individual, group or couples therapy as well as crisis services for students, faculty, and staff. Consults with students, faculty, and staff on mental health and organizational issues. Documents clinical services provided.
Provides clinical supervision to graduate level trainees in the form of one-on-one supervision, group supervision and provision of training workshops and seminars.
Develops and implements one (1) or more outreach programs for student groups, University departments and staff, and/or community groups.
Serves as a primary liaison for two (2) or more campus departments or organizations.
Coordinates and develops overall counseling and/or prevention programs and services for the Center, including group therapy, assessment, outreach of population specific services.

Minimum Education

Master’s degree in clinical or counseling psychology, social work or related field by hire date



Preferred Education

Minimum Experience

Two (2) years of experience in college counseling, social work or related field.



Preferred Experience
  • Preference of at least two years of full-time experience as a licensed counselor
  • Preference to experience with higher education
  • Experience working with trauma informed interventions


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of University and/or higher education counseling and prevention services
  • Knowledge of trauma informed interventions
  • Ability to provide education and prevention programming to a diverse group, to include student-athletes and high academic achieving students
  • Knowledge of ACES (Adverse Childhood Experiences) and experience working with individuals with childhood trauma
  • Provide drug and alcohol education
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of internal and external constituents
  • Established understanding of factors associated with age, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, or socioeconomic status as an essential component for effective implementation of services
  • Knowledge of current trends in the incidence and prevalence of mental health concerns as they relate to students in the higher education setting
  • Teach skills to successfully manage challenges and demonstrate consistently high levels of both athletic and academic performance


Licenses, Certificates and Registrations

Kansas license in clinical or counseling psychology or social work at the masters level, or eligible and actively pursuing licensure within one (1) year of hire date

Additional Information
This is a newly created position that will report to the Director of Student-Athlete Mental Health and Performance within Wichita State Intercollegiate Athletics. This position will serve a diverse group of students within the University structure, to include student-athletes and Rudd Foundation Scholars. Position will provide mental health psychology services, mental health education and assessments, support drug and alcohol education, provide education and prevention programming on clinical psychological issues to students, coaches, staff, Rudd Foundation staff and other constituents. This position will coordinate with professional colleagues, to include Counseling and Prevention Services (CAPS) on campus, the Rudd Foundation, student health and sports medicine, to ensure effective treatment plans and referrals. Development of outreach programming with student and constituent groups. Position may provide clinical supervision to graduate trainees.
