Job Summary:

The Medical Editor/Proofreader is responsible for formatting and proofing all office progress notes created by the providers. The editor must accurately format and proof progress notes and other patient letters with attention to detail and must be knowledgeable in medical language/terminology and EMR programs. Editors will print all schedules daily for all providers and make sure letters are fully completed and sent to providers for final signatures.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Proof and format outgoing correspondence with accuracy.
  • Process emergent dictations with accuracy.
  • Create admit notes with accuracy.
  • Review all office progress notes for all providers ensuring accuracy.
  • Fax all office progress notes to relevant providers.
  • Print providers' schedules.
  • Keep a daily productivity log.
  • Review and handle all electronic messages.
  • Address all messages in a timely & efficient manner.
  • Send messages to providers to electronically sign their office progress notes.
  • Keep log showing all processed office progress notes.
  • Send messages to providers if office progress notes are incomplete in the patient's chart.
  • Send messages to Medical Records.
  • Carries out all other assigned responsibilities by the supervisor.

Position Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Strong medical vocabulary and proofreading skills
  • Possess and utilize exceptional organizations skills, interpersonal skills and proper phone etiquette
  • Minimum two years of experience in a medical office
  • Computer and/or EMR experience
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, existing diagnoses, medical abbreviations and terminology, techniques, procedures and pharmacology is a plus

Physical Demands:

Must be able to sit for long periods of time, and must have manual dexterity to write and work computer systems and keyboard.


In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) order that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all covered personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.” Upon receipt of a conditional job offer, candidates who are not already vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol.
