LHH is seeking a Medical Biller in Suffern, NY. This is an excellent direct hire opportunity with an upbeat, high energy team!

Pay: $45k-$50K

Position Summary:

The Billing Specialist will be responsible for obtaining missing information via set protocols in a timely and professional manner. In addition, providing billing customer service support to clients and patients via phone and emails. Strong communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and impeccable attention to detail is a must for this position.

Job Responsibilities:

  • An understanding of elements needed for successful medical claim submission to insurance payers
  • The ability to interpret Explanation of Benefits
  • Billing customer service - patient, client, and insurance carrier support
  • Works billing missing information worklist in an electronic format by utilizing the system tools for resolution or phone calls to the customer for needed billing information and update accordingly
  • Identifies trends and ways to help prevent billing exceptions and notifies management
  • Sorting and distribution rejected items from the lockbox
  • Payment research and posting of cases generated from a sunset billing system
  • Assists on special projects and/or assignments
  • Adheres to HIPAA regulations, company and departmental policies
  • Other job-related duties as assigned


Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma (college degree a plus)
  • Two years of experience in medical billing with a healthcare facility or billing company
  • Medical Coding and Billing Certification desired but not required


Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and procedural modifiers
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience following-up with insurance companies and patients for complete claims processing and maximum payment
  • Familiarity with commercial insurances, Medicare, Medicaid, PPO, and HMO plans, and their guidelines
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong ability to identify, analyze and solve problems
  • Requires the ability to recognize operational challenges and suggest recommendations to management
  • Self-motivated and approach tasks with a positive, proactive demeanor
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, over the telephone, and in-person while always remaining HIPAA compliant
