UCFS is currently seeking a full-time (35 hours per week, 45 weeks per year) Medical Assistant who will assist a school-based APRN at Norwich Free Academy with preparing the patient processing information needed for referrals and case management, as well as documenting clinical information in the electronic health record. The ideal candidate will be able to provide courteous, professional, patient-centered customer service to all UCFS clients, patients, and visitors, as well as internal customer support for clinical staff by performing the following job duties:

  • Greets all clients, visitors and employees to the health center, providing courteous, patient centered and professional customer service in person or on the telephone.
  • Assists the clinical staff with meeting NCQA patient centered medical home standard, customer service and health care outcome measures, follows evidence based protocols
  • Demonstrates competency and assists with screening tests/procedures, point of care testing, obtaining and recording vital signs
  • Adheres to universal precautions and performs quality control/improvement activities as assigned; operates and maintains equipment per manufacture instructions; Ensures clean and stocked exam rooms
  • Documents in the electronic health record system and makes referrals
  • Provides continuity of care functions such as contacting patients regarding missed appointments; rescheduling appointments; schedules appointments for outside tests as ordered by the provider; coordinates outside referrals; tracks follow up on referrals and urgent/stat diagnostic testing; tracks and recalls patients who need preventive and chronic care management
  • Services the reception area windows and performs related data collection/entry; screens all clients and updates pertinent demographic and insurance information into the practice management system.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • A minimum of 2 years of related experience within a medical office capacity
