BASIC FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITY: The McKinney-Vento program’s mission is to ensure the identification, enrollment, and academic success of students experiencing homelessness. Applicant works under minimum supervision to provide advanced clerical services to McKinney-Vento district liaison. Helps ensure TEHCY (Texas Education of Homeless Children and Youth) grant requirements are met. The McKinney-Vento summer support staff will maintain confidential information and engage in frequent contact with all levels of district employees, outside agencies, and the general public.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position is grant funded. The McKinney-Vento summer support staff is a position full time from June 2023-August, 2023.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify homeless students who qualify for services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
  • Provide enrollment assistance and support services to homeless students and their families, to ensure enrollment, attendance, participation, and success in school.
  • Formulate action plans for implementing project strategies.
  • Develop and maintain links with a variety of community resources.
  • Compile data and maintain project records and reports.
  • Compliance oversight for records/documents/funds.
  • Purchase items needed for the McKinney-Vento services as approved under the grant guidelines
  • Interact with district, City, County administrators, public.
  • Conduct home visit when needed to help identify students for McKinney-Vento Services
  • Follow-up with Student Residency Questionnaire and complete intake forms
  • Complete School of Origin transportation request and follow-up with families to ensure they receive bus information

  • Participate in professional development that increases effectiveness and improves District initiatives

Other Responsibilities:

  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail and other documents to department staff.
  • Receive, store, issue supplies and equipment for the department.
  • Keep informed of and comply with all state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
  • Project a positive image to the school and community.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of school district organization, operations, and administrative policies
  • Knowledge of McKinney-Vento Act, and the rights and protections it provides for homeless students
  • Ability to multi-task numerous complex administrative activities
  • Highly proficient skills in keyboarding, word processing, and file maintenance
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Requires good mathematical skills Ability to evaluate data and statistics and translate into a format which meets the needs and requirements of the administration and department
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases and do word processing
  • Ability to initiate and complete projects and programs
  • Ability to research, compile, analyze and report data clearly

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS:
    • Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
    • Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
    • Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
    • Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
    • Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional district wide travel
    • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior office work environment with little or no exposure to physical risk.
