Nature of Work

Skilled work in the construction, masonry and concrete structures; concrete work and installations, and cement finishing; plastering; layout and install floor and wall tile; insulate and repair.

Illustrative Examples of Essential Duties

  • Installs poles, pours, and installs trash cans.
  • Supports, sets up and dismantles for special events.
  • Moves furniture.
  • Builds sea walls and masonry structures.
  • Repairs bridges, boat docks and boardwalks.
  • Drives trucks and other equipment (i.e. forklift, crane & back hoe).
  • Installs lifeguard stands.
  • Prepares written reports
  • Plasters walls and ceilings inside/outside.
  • Installs and layouts asphalt, vinyl and ceramic tiles.
  • Makes up forms and cement for Walk-of-Stars foot prints.
  • Builds and installs concrete showers on beach.
  • Cuts and ties rebar.
  • Repairs locks.
  • Repairs roofs.
  • Installs carpet
  • Works with and assists other departments.
  • Transports employees and materials to job.
  • Erects chain link fences.
  • Installs signs.
  • Paints and rustproofs.
  • Operates a variety of power tools.
  • Installs metal studs.
  • Maintains and repairs playground equipment.
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Eighteen (18) months full-time verifiable experience in concrete finishing work and form building including curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and slabs.

  • Driver's license.

  • Obtain Class "B" Florida Commercial Driver's License valid for air brakes within ninety (90) days of appointment.

  • Desired: Two (2) years of commercial experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.

  • Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine.

  • Significant walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, and kneeling.


  • Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling.

  • Heavy lifting - excessive bending and kneeling.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. All tasks require the ability to communicate orally
  • Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as confined space, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, operating machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards or toxic agents.
