*JOB DESCRIPTION* *Job Title: *_*Marine Electrician Journeyman I*_ *Location: *San Diego, CA *Position Status:* Full-time, Temporary *Job Summary: * Install, repair and connect equipment for all electrical services on the ship without Supervision. Lay out, pull, lift and install cables and conduits without Supervision. Prepare work area, drill holes, grind metal surfaces, and mount equipment with minimal Supervision. Test electrical equipment in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items without Supervision. Perform other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. *Essential Functions:* * Demonstrate knowledge of shipyard safety best practices (i.e. job hazard analysis (JHA), fire prevention, electrical safety, tool safety, fall protection, hazardous waste operations, confined space entry, hot work operations, etc.). * Demonstrate the ability to operate and maintain a sand blaster, parts washer, steam cleaner and paint booth. * Demonstrate knowledge of basic math and measuring (i.e. addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, how to read a tape measure, etc.) * Ability to properly care for and use basic tools (e.g. flash light, tape measure, pliers, feeler gauge, Allen wrench, crescent wrench, combination wrench, socket wrench, Ford wrench, pipe wrench, ball-peen hammer, soft hammer, Phillips and flat head screwdriver). * Demonstrate a general understanding of rigging and hoisting requirements. * Demonstrate a general understanding of Naval Ship Compartment numbering systems. * Provide and maintain protection / cleanliness of in shop and/or on site equipment. * Blank and tag equipment in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items. * Package, label and store material in an organized fashion. * Demonstrate knowledge of Naval Ship or in shop lock out and tag out procedures. * Demonstrate knowledge of Naval Ship Work Authorization Form (WAF) procedures. * Possess general knowledge of 4E specifications, references and drawings (including category I and II NAVSEA Standard Items). * Understand the basic mission and objectives of each class of Navy Ship. * Obtain overhead crane, forklift and man lift / high reach qualification. * Demonstrate knowledge of fasteners (i.e. markings, material type, torqueing technique, Lock-wire usage, Anti-seize usage, thread protrusion, and measuring standard or metric fasteners). * Demonstrate knowledge of gasket types and purposes. * Obtain CPR certification. * Demonstrate the ability to utilize basic electrical tools such as a multimeter, megger and ammeter. * Demonstrate the ability to drill and tap electrical equipment. * Demonstrate knowledge of critical access requirements in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items. * Demonstrate knowledge of shipyard terms and acronyms. * Demonstrate the ability to repair and service multi cable transits (MCT) and multi cable penetrations (MCP). * Demonstrate the ability to accomplish match marking while disassembling and reassembling electrical equipment. * Demonstrate knowledge of Ohm’s law. * Demonstrate knowledge of AC and DC power circuits. * Demonstrate knowledge of electrical hardware and grounding cables. * Demonstrate the ability to assemble and operate an electrical test kit in support government inspections in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items. * Demonstrate the ability to reference the Navy Standard Technical Manual (NSTM) Chapter 300 – Electrical Plant. * Demonstrate advanced knowledge of electrical safety hazards in accordance with the NSTM. * Demonstrate advanced knowledge of electrical terms and acronyms. * Demonstrate knowledge of insulation requirements and insulations resistance measurement in accordance with the NSTM. * Demonstrate knowledge of rotating electric machinery in accordance with the NSTM. * Demonstrate the ability to maintain, spice and fit cable. * Demonstrate knowledge of cable tag requirements in accordance with the NSTM. * Demonstrate knowledge of switchboards and distribution channels in accordance with NSTM. * Demonstrate knowledge of circuit breakers, contactors and relays in accordance with the NSTM. * Demonstrate knowledge of how to recondition equipment after contamination in accordance with the NSTM. * Demonstrate the consistent ability to submit a Condition(s) Found Report without Supervision. * Demonstrate the ability to source material in accordance with applicable 4E Specifications, References and Drawings without Supervision. * Demonstrate the ability to wire electrical systems without Supervision. * Demonstrate the ability to accomplish an electrical disconnect and reconnect in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items (including the authoring and submittal required reports) without Supervision. * Other duties as may be assigned. *Job Requirements and Experience:* * Must be 18 years of age or older to apply. * Associates Degree or Technical Certification preferred. * Minimum 6 years of marine and/or shipyard experience. * OSHA 10 Maritime (Preferred) * High School or Equivalent (Preferred) *Environmental Factors / Physical Demands:* * Must be able to perform Essential Functions with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employee or others. * Work in a wide variety of environments, conditions, and/or situations including: * Small and/or confined spaces. * At heights of 20 feet or more. * Routinely bending, twisting, kneeling climbing and reaching for 1-12 hours per day. * Sitting, standing, and/or walking for 1-12 hours per day. * Enduring noise, fumes, dust, and inclement weather. * Must be able to lift and carry 1-75lbs throughout the day. * Must be able to safely wear a respirator when needed.
