BWXT is currently seeking a Manufacturing CNC Technician for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA.

Job Description / Duties:

  • Support creation of design models and detailed drawings with CNC manufacturing capabilities.
  • Perform fabrication, assembly, testing and inspection of mechanical components and systems.
  • Assist in the development and qualification of advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Assist in the development and qualification of new chemical processes.
  • Assemble prototype and production equipment.
  • Write test reports and assist with qualification reports.
  • Maintain and control material, chemical, and component inventories.
  • Procure and control tooling.
  • Identify procurement requirements for mechanical components.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, machining equipment and automated equipment.
  • Operate fork trucks, lifts, and other shop equipment.
  • Inspect and characterize components.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness throughout the shop and chemistry laboratory.
  • Other engineering and manufacturing support tasks as required.

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A High School diploma is required. An Associate’s degree is preferred and may substitute for experience.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of related experience performing work in a machine shop is required.
  • Must possess a certificate/diploma in machining or a Journeyman’s card.
  • Must be able to demonstrate an extensive background in computer aided machining.
  • Must have an extensive background in CNC programming.
  • Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be able to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication.
  • Must have previous hands-on experience in a shop environment.
  • Must have advanced manual machining skills.
  • Knowledge of CNC systems and design engineering techniques relative to the development of complex electro/mechanical tools and systems is required.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, but the ability to work independently will also be required.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Travel (<10%) domestic and international is required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
