Job Description/Responsibilities

The Controls/Electrical engineer is responsible for controlling and maintaining the electrical infrastructure of the plant (instruments, programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, distributed control systems and their respective programming). This includes the installation of simple and complex new components, as well as mentoring and training of technicians. The engineer will review billing and tariffs, in order to make recommendations to improve efficiency and reduce costs. This position will also organize workloads, provide technical support, and manage work quality to ensure uptime and good quality product.

  • Lead the engineering of a production automation plan for BBK that details and develops hardware and software control platforms throughout the plant. Platforms will include, programmable logic controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and distributed control systems (DCS). Assist production through engineering, implementation of modifications and troubleshooting programs and other control systems. Develop and expand a distributed control and monitoring system plant wide. Take charge of the implementation of electrical distribution system. Update and add to the ACAD Single Line Electrical drawing. Identify cost savings.
  • The Controls/Electrical Engineer will set up a uniform platform that includes safety for all our PLC controlled systems. Lead the installation, training and maintenance of an Arc Flash program. Monitor electrical personal protective equipment (PPR). This position will also make sure control/electric panels are safe and clearly marked. Implement arc flash studies and coach and mentor Technicians. The role will stay current with electric codes NEC and NFPA.
  • Train and guide Electrical Technicians who support the facilities and electrical/automation needs. Evaluate employee performance and ability to determine skill development needs. Establish individual improvement plans to enhance abilities and competencies with electrical distribution, controls and instruments.
  • Ensure adherence to Personal Safety, Food Safety, Quality and Environmental Policies and Practices. Lead the creation and on-going updates of Electrical and ISO related Work Instructions. Supervise instrument calibration logs. Schedule in-house and contractor calibrations as necessary for food safety and quality.
  • Meet and exceed customer expectations by directing contractors and Maintenance Technicians to deliver products on time within budget and meeting quality specifications. Troubleshoot operating problems. Develop corrective Action Plans using sound engineering principals. Oversee the implementation of the CA plans and follow up by using Company Systems (GUI) with actions and results. Monitor electric utility usage and tariffs. Make recommendations as necessary based on sound engineering. Learn the essential duties of the Plant Wide Maintenance Manager, to provide bench strength during absences.
  • Provide leadership to Maintenance Technicians and all employees that is consistent with the Sazerac culture goals. Treat employees fairly and with respect. Participate in efforts to address issues identified through climate surveys and help make the Company "one of the industry's most desired places to be."
  • Ensure all projects and initiatives are engineered and implemented in compliance with regulatory and environmental guidelines. Engineer systems to collect digital data from instruments as required by environmental permit requirements.
  • Keep up to date with all relevant technological advancements by taking advantage of learning opportunities. Implement personalized training plans for Maintenance Technicians to raise their level of electrical and controls knowledge and skills necessary to make routine repairs and modifications within the facility.
  • Support in the development of a preventative/predictive maintenance (PM) program for electrical systems, controls and instruments to include; program back-up, program logging, documentation, instrument calibration, thermography and arc flash. Have the capacity to use hand tools when necessary, to perform work and to trouble shoot. Maintain the documentation of repairs and PM activities in order to monitor effectiveness of PM procedures. Work with the plant team to implement and maintain an effective Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Make sure all PC's used to interface with controls have the latest version of the software.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Capability to manage multiple projects at the same time

  • BSEE, BSEET, Computer Science or similar

  • Engineering or related degree

  • Hands on electrical experience, Allen Bradley PLC programming and hardware experience, equipment troubleshooting experience

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Products (Word, Excel and Outlook)

  • Five years of applicable experience (minimum)

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Strong planning and organizational skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Supervisory experience

Salary range - $95,218 - $142,827

  • Placement within the salary range is calculated based upon years of directly relatable experience for the position.
