About the role

We are looking for a Manager of Web Engineering to join our healthy, high-performing team and drive forward several important initiatives including development on our web platform and our education and documentation websites. You would come in to directly manage a team of 5 experienced web engineers as well as coordinating with stakeholders across the company from design to engineering to marketing to ensure that our projects are delivered with a very high bar for quality. You would also be part of a management/leadership group with three peers, which helps to provide lots of context and support on decision-making.

The vast majority of our platform tooling is open source*, and includes popular community projects like next-mdx-remote. We also maintain close relationships with vendors and maintainers that are critical to our web platform such as Vercel and Unified (we use mdx for all docs). We are deeply invested in open source and believe that the best way to contribute to the open source community is to be an active participant and/or financial sponsor to the projects that are important to us as a company.

The second initiative is our developer portal project, which includes all of HashiCorp's documentation and education sites, customer support and community support sites, and a greenfield project to introduce a UI that practitioners can use to browse plugins and integrations for each project. This is a massive, highly visible initiative for the company that we have seven engineers working on full time, in addition to several designers and 20+ stakeholders across the organization, from engineering to technical writing to marketing to customer support. This role would take the lead on this project, orchestrating the overall vision and the priorities of those working on the project from all angles.

In this role you can expect to

• In this role, you would be overseeing a couple initiatives - first is our web platform, which is a set of tools and standards built around next.js. We use this platform for more than 15 public websites, including HashiCorp's documentation, learning and tutorials, marketing sites, and events websites. This gives us great flexibility with our staff in working on different projects without lengthy onboarding processes, and an extensive ability to share code between projects. The goal with the web platform tooling is to ensure that codebases across the team are clean, efficient, and healthy, and that engineers on the team feel productive.

You may be a good fit for our team if

• You're an experienced engineering manager who has a strong background in full stack web development. The tooling, processes, and team on this project are largely quite healthy and productive, the core challenge in this role is managing and orchestrating a large and complex project which involves a lot of different people and a deep stack of context.
