$18.22 - $26.72 Hourly (Classified Hourly Level 9)

Salary/Compensation Statement:
  • Hourly wage reflects an approximate annual salary of $37,897 – $55,577.
  • New employees may not be placed on the salary schedule higher than any current employee in this classification with the same or greater number of years’ relevant experience.
  • Lane’s robust Benefits package includes a generous contribution toward medical, dental and vision insurance, basic term life insurance, long term disability, vacation leave, personal time and paid sick leave.
  • Lane Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan. Questions regarding your loan eligibility should be directed to your loan servicer or to the US Department of Education.

Two (2) years of maintenance experience in a commercial building.


Licensure or Certification Requirements
Current Oregon Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.

Preferred Education
Journey-person trade license or training in plumbing, electrical, painting, or carpentry.

Position Purpose:
This position will be assigned to perform maintenance and other general facilities activities such as event set-ups, deliveries, and specialized cleaning.

Essential Functions:
  • Assist with Event tracking and planning with setups, and tear downs.
  • Assist in all facilities work as needed including cleaning, snow removal, and pressure washing.
  • Repair and maintain restroom fixtures, drinking fountains, and related plumbing items.
  • Assist with repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment, boilers, steel guards, equipment bases, metal desks, chairs, file cabinets, handrails, turnstiles, lockers, gym, childcare, and dental equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electric door hardware, window openers, overhead doors, and over-head signs.
  • Maintain equipment such as power drills, grinders, hand and power tools; maintain equipment and repair parts inventory; maintain records.
  • Repair safety guards, ladders, ramps, motor mountings, and other tools.
  • Assist with commercial-level painting work using airless sprayers, rollers, and brushes with various coatings and applications.
  • Assist other trades including Locksmith, Electricians, Plumbers, Carpenters, and Painters.
  • Utilize Lane’s Computerized Maintenance Management System to receive, track, enter, and complete preventive maintence work orders.
  • Work independently on assigned tasks.
  • This position is considered an essential employee who may be called into work during campus emergencies such as snow events.
  • Apply all Oregon OSHA safety regulations, make safety a top priority, and attend all department safety training sessions.
  • Demonstrate Lane’s core value of Sustainability by incorporating practices into work that improve the health of the environment such as recycling, saving energy and water, and choosing less toxic chemicals.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.

Supervision Statement:
The Maintenance Worker works under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Facilities Management and Planning. A Lead Maintenance Worker schedules, assigns, inspects and approves work and is available to answer questions or troubleshoot problems on a daily basis.

This Maintenance Worker may lead the work of part-time staff and student workers.

Physical Demands/Working Environment:
  • Ability to work at heights of over fifty (50) feet as required by the position.
  • Ability to lift and carry ladders and other items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Stand and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, and twist repeatedly.
  • Ability to climb and work on knees as required by the position.
  • Work safely.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of or skill in:
  • OSHA regulations relating to building maintenance.
  • Heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems including pumps, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, piping systems, control valves, digital controllers, and building automation systems.
  • Integrated pest management is helpful but not required.
  • Proper lifting and techniques for moving large items.


Ability to:
  • Perform general plumbing, cleaning, door hardware repairs, painting, carpentry, mechanical maintenance, repair assignments and locksmith duties such as key cutting.
  • Maintain files.
  • Read, understand building drawings, technical manuals, work orders and other instructions and directions.
  • Operate saws, grinders, forklift, scissor lift, scissor hoist, and boom lift.
  • Use a computer, tablet, and smartphone to access and update work orders.
  • Use ladders and scaffolding safely.
  • Drive a work truck.
  • Work independently on assigned tasks with a minimum of technical supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Effectively collaborate with Lane employees and students.
  • Exhibit a customer service attitude.
  • Coordinate service contractors and vendors performing repairs and maintenance activities.

Knowledge of, skill in, or ability to learn:
  • Mechanical, plumbing and electrical maintenance and repair.
  • Lock maintenance and repair.
  • Hardware repair and maintenance.
  • Commercial painting techniques with various applications.
  • Carpentry work associated with wall framing, door and window installation, hardware installation, and general carpentry.
  • Use of OSHA-compliant fall protection systems including harnesses and roof tie-offs
  • Applying occupational safety precautions and practices.
  • Forklift use.
