Vestolit (formerly Mexichem Specialty Resins, Inc.) is one of the world's largest manufacturers of specialty vinyl resins for formulating plastisols, organosols, powders, and compounds (headquartered in Avon Lake, Ohio) has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Technician - Mechanical located in Henry, IL.

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Manager, troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, installs, adjusts and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment and systems, including piping systems, agitators, blowers, motors, pumps, valves, compressors, vacuum systems, filtration systems, conveyors, seals, bearings, dryers, filter presses, refrigeration units, stripping columns, coal and gas fired boiler components, steam turbines and rotating equipment in Plant production processes to maintain safe and reliable performance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge of good piping practices and ability to run piping in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Ability to read and understand piping and other mechanical drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to line couplings or belts on various types of equipment (pumps, agitators, compressors, etc.)
  • General knowledge of various types of mechanical seals and ability to install properly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair various types of small and medium sized pumps.
  • General knowledge of different types of bearings and ability to install properly.
  • Ability to understand, troubleshoot and repair various valves (gate, ball, globe, etc.).
  • Ability to use various measuring instruments including micrometer, dial indicator, etc.
  • Ability to observe mechanical devices in operation and utilize troubleshooting techniques to resolve issues.
  • Ability to make necessary repairs to equipment and decisions on part replacements.
  • Capable of understanding and practicing systematic tear down and assembly methods.
  • Uses of tools and equipment such as drills, pneumatic tools, drill presses, pipe threaders, grinders, saws, cherry pickers, chain hoists, come alongs, hydraulic and mechanical presses, hand tools, porta-powers, air wrenches, etc.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Performs weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual preventive maintenance activities.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts for installation or repair.
  • Conducts equipment startup and/or performance testing.
  • Initiates, responds to and completes maintenance work orders.
  • Maintains timely and accurate maintenance record keeping using appropriate software applications.
  • Utilizes appropriate purchasing software systems for material, parts and equipment procurement.
  • Supplements in-house repair capability with outside contractor or manufacturers representatives as necessary.
  • Operates fork trucks as required.

Education & Experience:

  • Associates Degree or in a related maintenance or manufacturing field and 3 to 5 years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field;
  • Or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and follow detailed instructions.
  • Must complete mechanical aptitude skills test with a score of 80% or higher.
  • Previous work experience in manufacturing operation or the chemical facility is preferred, but not required
