The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.


We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Maintenance Specialist.


Required Qualifications: This position requires a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two (2) years of recent and verifiable building maintenance, carpentry work and painting experience. Candidate must also be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position also requires the successful candidate to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License to drive College vehicles. Candidate must be able to be forklift certified.


This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum hourly rate of $15.15 with an approximate annual amount of $31,500.


Working Hours: Normal working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.


Please note: The responsibilities of this position may require the candidate to have personal transportation for temporary assignment at any Daytona State campus. This position may be permanently relocated to any of the Daytona State campuses as needed. A flexible work schedule is in effect and the candidate must be able to work days/nights/weekends/holidays/overtime as needed and be able to report during emergency situations (leaks, storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc.).

Key Responsibilities:


  • Performs carpentry and painting duties. Assists with minor renovation of classrooms, labs and offices including installing studs, walls, and repairing drywall. Builds concrete forms. Installs doors, locks, hinges, panic device hardware. Installs paper towel and soap dispensers.
  • Performs preventative building maintenance which includes maintaining roofs, windows, brick, tile, and concrete surfaces. Performs minor furniture repair.
  • Installs and/or replaces ceiling tile and grid systems. Monitors roof leaks.
  • Uses pressure washing equipment to clean and prepare surfaces.
  • Makes ADA and traffic signage for all campuses. Operates computerized sign engravement equipment.
  • Maintains and safeguards department tools, vehicles, and shop areas.
  • Drives College vehicles and operates golf carts and light trucks to retrieve/return supplies, equipment, tools, etc.
  • Attends staff meetings to exchange information. Attends professional seminars and/or conferences to improve professional skills to maintain required certifications/licenses.
  • Gathers, verifies, and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting activities and events for assigned areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The candidate must be able to perform medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing, or raising objects, exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. This position requires the ability to use machines, hand tools, or equipment such as trenchers, tractors, light trucks, light equipment, mowers, forklift, or power saws. This position involves exposure to bright/dim light, dusts and pollen, extreme heat and/or cold, wet, or humid conditions, vibration, fumes and/or noxious odors, traffic, moving machinery, and toxic/caustic chemicals. Candidate should also have computer knowledge to be able to clock in/out and view other personnel related information (i.e., paycheck, W-2, etc.).
