DEPARTMENT: PUBLIC WORKS - STREET SERVICES DIVISION

As a reminder, the hourly rate of pay for this position is $29.01 for the first six (6) months then $29.59. In order to be considered a qualified candidate, all applicants will be required to take a written test. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Performs manual work in the construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of roads, bridges, parks, grounds, recreational areas, and facilities; performs heavy lifting, and performs general maintenance work.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receives oral instructions from Supervisor or Maintainer of higher grade, who reviews work in progress. Carries out work according to standard procedures. Utilizes both hand tools and power equipment to complete assigned tasks. Performs manual work in the installation and clearing of catch basins, pipes, patching or resurfacing of roads, removal of trees, leaves, brush, trash, or refuse and in the installation or replacement of fences, posts, rails, or signs. Performs flag person duties in road maintenance operations. Assists driver or equipment operator in preparing truck or equipment, loading materials, and in positioning equipment. During operation, observes performance of equipment and reports malfunctions to operator or driver. Drives truck, not requiring CDL license, to transport materials or to plow snow. Operates snow blower, spraying equipment, mowers and other equipment in roads and grounds maintenance work. Uses hand tools to plant and care for trees, shrubs, and flower beds. Operates equipment to mow and maintain fields and recreational areas. Also grades, fertilizes, seeds, and lines playing fields. Performs heavy manual work in the removal of debris and trees. Performs minor carpentry, painting, and plumbing tasks in maintaining town facilities. Cleans and maintains equipment, facilities, and grounds. Follows standard safety procedures and regulations. Responds for emergency work, such as snow removal, floods, hurricane, etc. during and after normal work hours. Gathers, organizes, and reports information to supervisors. Reports tasks accomplished verbally and/or in writing to supervisor.
