Definition:

The Behavioral Interventionist works closely with Beacon multidisciplinary team to assist students to eliminate or replace disruptive, harmful, or negative behaviors exhibited by the students to which they are assigned and replace them with positive actions. Under the administrative direction of the Manager of Behavior Services and the Special Education Teacher, Behavior Interventionist supports academic instruction, and communicates with school personnel concerning the needs of special education students aged 5 to 22 years.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to:

  • Oversees classroom behaviors and academics under the direction of the teacher and Manager of Behavior Services for providing an opportunity for the student to participate in classroom activities
  • Assists in implementing student’s IEP and Behavior Intervention Plan
  • Implements and model’s alternative communication intervention strategies for teaching students to communicate effectively
  • Monitors and records data on academic and/or behavioral goals
  • Participates in mandatory training and other staff development programs as directed for the purpose of learning and enhancing new skillsets
  • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students for the purpose of documenting and communicating information to appropriate personnel
  • Assists with student behavior management on the vans to and from school and when assigned to transportation duties during community-based instruction
  • Communicates with staff any necessary student information pertinent to maintaining the school’s positive teaching and behavioral environment
  • Works in the classroom with staff and students on a rotating basis to prevent crisis situations
  • Using Professional Assault Crisis Training (Pro-ACT) techniques identifies and appropriately responds to any verbal and physical containment situations as needed
  • Assists in organizing and participating in community-based outings
  • Maintains a positive and welcoming atmosphere that promotes collaboration
  • Collaborates with school or district medical personnel in the coordination of medical care protocols if necessary
  • Provides information relevant to the progress reports quarterly and reports for use in annual Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Performs other related duties as required

LVN Job Duties

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse:

  • Well body checks
  • Pulse Ox and vital signs
  • Make phone calls to parents, or doctor with registered nurse knowledge
  • Gastrostomy feeding
  • Assist with illness or injuries
  • Charting by exception/certain situations/clarifications
  • Once a month and PRN check, classrooms emergency kits, nurse bags and vans for proper equipment and supplies
  • 1:1 on students and their needs, feeding, toileting, ambulating, assess, implement and plan of care for their students
  • Plan and manage the specific care of the student.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of a variety of evidence-based techniques and practices in special education and behavior management
  • Data collection strategies and reporting requirements
  • Behavioral principles and social interaction facilitation
  • Understanding of various laws of the State of California, district and school policies and procedures
  • Basic math
  • Writing documents following prescribed formats
  • Understanding of complex, multi-step written and oral instructions
  • Operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods
  • Work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Work harmoniously with the families, students, and staff
  • Travel to other sites and locations
  • Compose and comprehend written and oral communications
  • Maintain sensitivity to ethnic, religious, cultural, economic, and sexual differences.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma is required; Associates of Arts Degree or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Experience in classroom and/or behavior management is highly preferred.
  • Must have current LVN licensure.

License/Certification:

  • LVN license (Required)

Physical Requirements

Work is performed under normal office or classroom conditions, but there are some minimal environmental risks or disagreeable conditions associated with the work.

Employees must be physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of a position with or without reasonable accommodation and without being a danger to themselves or others. Must meet all Pro-ACT standards and safety requirements (light duty is not available).
