POSITION SUMMARY

Performs all clinic nursing functions, as well as required laboratory procedures and administrative duties as requested by supervisor. Acknowledges and responds appropriately to the hospital’s customer relations philosophy, including the five fundamentals of the AIDET program.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Ensures the general cleanliness and professional appearance of each exam room prior to and after each patient encounter. Escorts the patient into the exam/treatment room and prepares the patient for the appropriate examination. Obtains the chief complaint, vital signs and other pertinent patient information and records as appropriate on the patient’s chart.

2. Assists the Physician/Physician Assistant as needed in all aspects of patient care that are within the individual capabilities of the Nurse and are permitted by Nursing license. This includes, but is not limited to, chaperoning, performing EKG’s, administering injections, performing CPR, peripheral venipuncture and finger stick, wound cleansing and preparation, bandaging.

3. Obtains blood, urine and other patient specimens and prepares them as necessary for in-house clinic laboratory testing or for shipment to the El Campo Memorial Hospital laboratory, as directed by the physician or physician assistant. Performs laboratory testing procedures on specimens according to procedures established by the El Campo Memorial Hospital laboratory director.

4. Orders and stocks medical and laboratory supplies. Maintains sample medications to include stocking, inventory and disposal of expired medications. Maintains supplies of injectable medications and vaccines, to include ordering, inventory and disposal of expired medications.

5. Assumes responsibility and is self-motivated.

6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education Possess a valid Texas State nursing license. Graduation from an approved LVN program. Possess communicative skills necessary to understand medical terminology procedures and orders.

Physical Demands Must be able to work nine hours, stand and walk for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level; lift supplies weighing up to 35 lbs; assist patients in moving from position to position.

Working Conditions Must be flexible and available during clinic hours Monday through Saturday. Exposure to sick patients, equipment and staff noise and interruption. Maintain a professional appearance and attitude. Understand and honor requirements of patient confidentiality.
