Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center

Full Time/ 40 hrs./week, Day Shift (6:00 a.m. - 3 p.m.)

Some Weekend Work Required

SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, will create and maintain master key systems for the Hospital and all components. Is responsible for keeping records of log-in and log-outs, as well as any other changes to the key system. Must be proficient in repairing and re-keying all types of locks (i.e., tumblers and cylinders) and in the operation and maintenance of key machines and other machinery that relates to the locksmith trade.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of previous experience
Successful completion of formal training in an approved Locksmith program at a vocational or Technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.
Work requires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in-depth, experience-based knowledge.
Work requires the ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain Medical Center policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel. This type of interaction requires courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors, and/or Medical Center employees. More sensitive situations may be referred to others as appropriate
Knowledge of Life Safety and Locksmith techniques, procedures and materials.
Requires proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on a high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.
Applies life safety, locksmith and general safety knowledge
Safely uses tools and equipment
Ability to solve problems and manage information
Reads and interprets schematic and construction drawings, service manuals and other technical documents.
Performs work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.

Required Physical, Mental, and Visual Abilities:
Lifting and/or carrying objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
Pushing and/or pulling non-motorized equipment (e.g., stretchers, supply carts, mops) weighing over 50 pounds.
Climbing - ascending or descending ladders, scaffolding, or ramps.
Stooping and bending.
Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time.

Working Conditions:
Work requires working with equipment or performing procedures where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises, or muscle strains.
Work requires the use of protective safety devices including, but not limited to, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, infection prevention apparel/apparatus, back belt.
