We are actively hiring a Localization Engineer to join our team on a newly awarded, multi-year contract based in the Northern Virginia area. This multi-year contract needs you to fill Human Language Translation (HLT) positions such as Desktop Publishing Specialists, Language Data Analysts, Localizations Engineers, Terminologists, and Translation Workflow Specialists. As a Localization Engineer, you troubleshoot and create solutions for technical production issues including translation memory management, script development for data manipulation, and defining strategies for project executions. You are a team player who thrives in a fast-paced work environment, working alongside other localization engineers and technology project managers to develop creative solutions for handling complicated files and workflows. You are self-motivated to learn and become an expert in localization and commercial technology products.

RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Provide daily, project-based technical support to clients as required
  • Facilitate unit- and enterprise-wide technology rollouts
  • Train linguists in the use of HLT
  • Assist Sponsor managers and linguists in troubleshooting issues related to the triage, translation, transcription, interpretation, and localization of foreign language content
  • Validate new features in new CAT tools, Translation Memories (TMs) Servers, and other HLT tools
  • Manage the collection, classification, and updating of TMs
  • Identify commercial tools and applications for localization potential, identifying key points to be considered during the localization process
  • Automate file analysis, parsing, and filtering
  • Write scripts and/or macros in various programming languages to automate repetitive tasks performed by project managers
  • Prepare various file types for the localization process (including re-coding and script writing as needed) to ensure compliance with clients' requirements and integrity of data
  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to provide input during planning of projects
  • Provide estimates on new, large-scale projects upon request
  • Work closely with the client's technology providers to:
    • Collect requirements from product stakeholders and end users
    • Define new features and improvements of the software products
    • Provide test cases for quality assurance
    • Provide documentation and training to product users
    • Report and test fixes for bugs found by product users

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Must possess an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
  • Bachelor's degree (computer science or mathematics degree preferred; or its equivalent (4 years or more of on-the-job experience in the specific HLT field)
  • Superb analytical skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
  • Experience with CAT and localization engineering tools
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing tools, XML Localization Interchange File Format, and related localization standards and formats
  • Organized and motivated self-starter with a problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Must be flexible with hours to accommodate project deadlines
  • Localization, DTP, and technology related experience essential

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Knowledge of web programming languages a plus (HTML, XML, ASP, JSP)
  • Journeyman level or better in target foreign language
