EDUCATION: Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language at a level sufficient to communicate effectively staff.
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Prior lifeguard experience and Lifesaving Certificate preferred.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Working knowledge of all current aspects of beach and pool safety and rescue including the use of a buoy during rescue.
JOB SUMMARY: Directly responsible for the safety of the bathers within assigned area. Alert to weather, beach and surf conditions, and to potential dangers.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Must be physically fit including passing the following requirements: swim 500 yards in the pool in 9 min. or less, swim 100 yards in the pool in 1.2 min. or less, run ½ mile in 3 min. or less, swim ½ mile in the ocean, then run ½ mile back to the start in 25 min. or less, and perform an ocean rescue using a buoy. Must be able to see and hear bathers in assigned area. Must be able to work on feet, moving about at a quick pace for several hours at a time. Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

1. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include weekends, holidays and split shifts.
2. Must arrive to work on time, consistently.
3. Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean and in good repair.
4. Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval.
5. Attend all required training, safety courses; attend office and departmental meetings.
6. Report any safety hazards, follow up that hazard has been corrected, and assist with providing a safe work environment.
7. Become proficient on all appropriate equipment and safety features.
8. Perform all opening and closing duties as assigned.
9. Greet members and guests by name whenever possible.
10. Learn known or potentially hazardous areas of the waterfront.
11. Become CPR and First Aid certified.
12. Respond quickly to all emergency situations in the water using proper procedures and techniques.
13. Provide initial emergency care to maintain life support until qualified medical personnel arrive.
14. Communicate with other Club Staff and Lifeguards regarding the need for additional assistance or equipment.
15. Acquaint members and guests with all areas of aquatic safety and to induce them to bathe in guarded areas.
16. Enforce safety standards and Club rules and regulations.
