OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB

Hands on leader, responsible for providing meaningful experiences for our residents. Implement and plan life enriching programs and events which provide socialization opportunities, fitness and wellness activities, educational and recreational programs, as well as spiritual life support based on the needs and preferences of the residents in the community. This position reports to the Senior Community Director, and supervises the activities departmental staff.

The Director must have the ability to develop, organize, implement and facilitate a well-rounded activities program that enhances the lives of campus residents. The Director should have knowledge of therapeutic recreational techniques and be able to interact positively with outside organizations, and develop good community relations. Creativity and motivational skills are essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB

1. Perform all duties and responsibilities with a positive attitude.

2. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs, promotes and facilitates group and individual activities (including preparation and clean up) inside and outside the community, ensuring the program meets the physical, nutritional, social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, vocational, and environmental needs of the residents.

3. Connects with local religious / spiritual organizations in order to develop and provide a comprehensive religious / spiritual programming for the campus.

4. Develops and maintains good community relations in support of the campus resident programming.

5. Ensures that all programming results, tools and systems operate in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and policies and procedures.

6. Consults with residents to best meet individual resident needs.

7. Ensures that campus transportation is arranged, and escorts for access to the local community and outside activities.

8. Participates in and provides needed recommendations as part of the Campus Interdisciplinary Team. Reports changes in resident’s conditions or activity level to appropriate team members.

9. Drives Campus transportation or has approved designees drive campus transportation as needed for outings and appointments.

10. Provides information for use in, and administration of budget, procurement of programming, and related administrative process.

11. Ensure resident activity progress notes as well as record of resident activities and attendance are documented.

Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of the Life Enrichment Team. Assists in selection of staff, providing orientation to new team members, Life Enrichment education, in-service education, and evaluations of Life Enrichment team members. Approves time off request for Life Enrichment team, and ensures appropriate coverage for scheduled events. Appraises Life Enrichment performance, and carries out other personnel management functions for the Life Enrichment Team.

12. Prepares and posts monthly or weekly activity schedule for Independent Living, and approves the calendars for Personal Care and Memory Care neighborhoods.

13. Organizes and facilitates an active volunteer program campus wide. Develops assignments for effective utilization of volunteer work in Life Enrichment programming.

14. Leads or has designee lead an active resident council and facilitates additional resident groups as necessary in all levels of care. Responds promptly to resident requests and concerns.

15. Responsible for evaluating and monitoring animals/ participants in the pet therapy/ family visitation program. Ensures and maintains records of vaccination status of animals visiting or residing on the campus. Must be comfortable and confident dealing with animals.

16. Develops or contributes to monthly community newsletter for a levels of care.

17. Completes or has designee complete an activities assessment or interest survey for each new resident, and utilizes the information strategically to develop effective programming, or ensures designee does so in our care communities.

18. Ensures Life Enrichment calendars are posted in a timely fashion and followed as written.

19. Conducts and/or attends required in-service training sessions and orientations.

20. Operate and instruct residents on use of gym equipment.

21. Responsible for putting up and taking down holiday decorations throughout the year.

22. Respects resident rights, privacy and dignity.

23. Host campus and community events.

24. Responsible for administrative duties such as payroll, scheduling staff and activities, participation in QAPI meetings, and develops goals associated with process improvement. Participates in recommendations for department policy review.

25. Keep supplies and equipment for activities at required levels. Reports need for maintenance and or repairs, identifies and develops liaison with internal and external resources for programming. Coordinates efforts with those of educational, social, recreational, and other community organizations.

OTHER DUTIES OF JOB

1. Assumes all duties as directed.

2. Adheres to all facility policies and procedures.

3. Maintains a professional, customer-oriented demeanor at all times.

4. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to the residents, families and staff.

5. Works within a team concept and thus fosters the same within the Life Enrichment Team.

6. Represents the facility in a positive manner.

EDUCATION / TRAINING

1. High school diploma or GED is required.

2. A bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy is preferred.

3. Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification is preferred.

4. Active registry status on the Pennsylvania nurse aide registry is a plus.

5. A valid driver’s license in the state of Pennsylvania is required.

6. A minimum of three year of prior experience in the recreational therapy, activities or event planning field is required.

7. Healthcare, senior care and/or gerontology experience is preferred.

8. Practical skills such as computer operations, word processing, spreadsheets, filing, telephone and other office systems.

9. Ability to follow oral and written direction.
