Upon completion of orientation and under general supervision, provides professional nursing care to behaviorally disturbed and mentally ill patients. The Licensed Practical Nurse communicates and works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team i.e. medical staff, administration, clinicians, dietitians and milieu personnel. Takes reasonable care and precautions to ensure high patient safety standards and a therapeutic environment exist. Assumes professional responsibility for both critical and nice to know communication occurring in support of continuity of care. Continuously serves as a professional nursing role model to patients, their families, colleagues and concerned others. May assume a coordinating role with assigned milieu personnel i.e. assignments, monitoring schedule/work, follow-through and high acuity direction.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Comprehensive understanding of the approved scope of nursing practice for advanced practice, registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, nursing assistants and non-licensed nursing personnel;
2) Application of nursing standards and practice within an acute psychiatric setting;
3) Ability to apply cultural sensitivity and age specific competency to nursing practice;
4) Effectively respond and actively participate in a psychiatric crisis to resolution;
5) Prepares documentation that reflects a professional nursing perspective and
6) Coordinate care within a multidisciplinary team framework.
Education / Licensure: Candidate will possess an accredited and approved professional vocational school of nursing certification of completion . Candidate will possess a valid current vocational/practical nursing license from the Wisconsin Board of Nursing or from a nurse compact state, where applicable.
Additional Requirements: Timely renew and maintain an active licensed vocational/practical nursing license
