JOB SUMMARY

The Crew Leader - Irrigation will oversee, delegate, and assist the Irrigation crew in installing and maintaining new and existing irrigation systems. This is accomplished by training staff, installing new irrigation, repairing and replacing all parts and equipment, programming and managing water sprinkling and consumption, creating watering schedules, monitoring crew performance, and responding to alarms.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE, AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Requires a State of Texas Landscape Irrigator’s license
• Valid Driver's License

• ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Leads a crew of workers by scheduling work, documenting progress, training workers, reviewing completed tasks, evaluating crew member’s overall performance, and documenting accordingly
• Programs site watering controllers by entering watering data, monitoring the use of water, verifying settings, and testing the system and the alarms
• Repairs irrigation breaks by monitoring and inspecting breaks and leaks, digging, cutting, and repairing pipes, rebuilding and replacing valves, soldering pipe, wires and risers, and adjusting heads, nozzles and risers
• Installs new irrigation by drafting designs, preparing materials for vendors, overseeing all installations, and preparing supplies for projects
• Performs inventory/property management of irrigation systems and supplies
• Exercises purchasing authority up to $1,000 without approval from the supervisor
• Operates equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, sod cutters, aerators, turf sweepers, backpack blowers, rollers, spray rigs, skid loaders, tractors, front-end loaders, trucks, and a variety of hand power tools
• Maintains the safe and efficient operation of equipment by performing preventative maintenance tasks such as sharpening blades, oiling parts, cleaning equipment including air filters and spark plugs, replenishing gasoline and oil, and reporting worn or damaged parts
• Performs other duties as assigned Job Title: Crew Leader - Irrigation Page 2 of 3 OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE Assist other divisions in the Parks & Recreation Department and other city departments as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires a High School Diploma and a minimum of five (5) years of related work experience.

• Knowledge of departmental practices and systems.
• Ability to effectively use small office equipment, including copy machines, computers, telephone systems.
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and an orientation towards customer service.
• Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively with a variety of individuals
• Ability to operate equipment with safety and efficiency.
• Ability to follow safety measures in the handling of hazardous substances and biological hazards.
• Ability to maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with others.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers and other forms of measurements
• Ability to work in various weather conditions
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions in English

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Ability to lift 50lbs
• Balancing – maintain equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching.
• Climbing – ascending, descending ladders, stairs, ramps, requires body agility.
• Pushing – use upper extremities to press against objects with force, or thrust forward, downward, outward.
• Standing – for sustained periods of time.
• Crawling – moving about on hands, knees, or hands, feet.
