South Burlington School DistrictPosition DescriptionJob Title: Library Media TechnicianLocation: Assigned SchoolJob Group: Support StaffReports to: Principal/designeeSummary: Works under the general direction of the Library Media Information Specialist. Assistsusers in accessing library materials such as: books, audio/video materials, databases, and equipment.Compiles records, sorts and shelves books and reading materials; check materials in/out, repairsdamaged materials, and answers questions. Assists with simple technology issues in the classrooms.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Interacts with individuals and groups by supervising, directing, and/or assisting with libraryservices: a.

Provide guidance with library organization, procedures, rules, and conduct.b. Monitor student assignments and projects.c. May conduct story time, assist with reading programs, book fairs, or other school initiatives.d. Assist others in locating books and resources, accessing on-line and database information.e.

Apprises faculty and staff of new materials.f. Assists teachers with compiling materials for units, researching topics, recommendingresources.g. Trains and supervise student aides and/or parent volunteers.2. Provides limited, on-site technical assistance to students and staff: a.

Assists with accessing: self-help options, lost documents and student password resets.b. Assists with troubleshooting hardware and software problems for A/V equipment (i.e.: closedcircuit or Broadcast television, digital video cameras (capturing, editing, and delivering,)LCD projectors, SmartBoards, wireless tablets, televisions, DVD/VHS places, projectors,audio systems.) Assist with network, and Internet connection problems, installs printers, reimaging, and upgrade equipment and peripherals.c. Provides multi-media assistance (SmartBoards, laptops, projectors, cameras) for assemblies,meetings, and classroom activities. Burns CDs and DVDs.d.

Assists students and staff with finding technical solutions and forwards escalated or advancedissues to Help Desk.3. Conducts circulation operations and assists with collection maintenance: a. Assists patrons with book and library material check in and out processes and interlibrary loan requests.b. Maintains and/or prepares circulation records, files, reports, notices, catalog and indexes.c.

Processes fees and refunds.d. Assist in maintaining inventories: catalogs holdings, compiles lost book and replacementinformation, processes acquisitions and orders.e. Covers, stamps, repairs, and shelves books; coordinates off-site repair of books andmaterials.f. Provides clerical and technical support for: catalog functions, purchase order process,presentations and displays.g.

Updates databases with library holdings, library lessons, student data, reservations, andaccount information; creates special sub-locations for teacher reserve items, booklists,and resourcesh. Recycle periodicals and old materials; straightens library.4. Remains current on career related subject matter: a. Attends trainings and meetings related to assigned subject matter, as requested.b.

Remains current with district software used for instruction.5. Familiarity with library organization, computerized catalog systems, technology, audio/visualrepair as well as customer service is preferred.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information from on-line resources, journals,periodicals, and technical documents; the ability to extrapolate relevant information and translate into simplewritten and/or oral instructions is essential. Ability to effectively receive and respond to others in variousformats (electronic, in-person, written.) Ability to present information clearly and succinctly to others (smallto large groups) in formal or informal venues and demonstrate effective communication, interpersonal andorganizational skills is required.Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, topractical situations. Must apply basic math skills to daily applications.Reasoning Ability: Ability to observe situations, define problems, identify solutions, and assumeappropriate responsibilities within scope of the jobs responsibilities to achieve satisfactory results.Other Skills and Abilities: The ability to work independently and to produce acceptable outcomes in atimely manner is required. Demonstrates technical competencies in building-based hardware andsoftware including but not limited to: multimedia equipment (LCD projectors, SmartBoards, scanners,digital camcorders, and cameras); All Microsoft Office Suite applications and SQL.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met byan employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The individual mustmeet deadlines from several sources and interact with others. Occasionally the position requires theemployee to work irregular or extended hours.
