    Library Media Specialist - 1.0 FTE

    Qualifications:
    • State of Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) Senior HS endorsement in one content area.
    • Secondary endorsement in Library Science preferred.

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Library Media Specialist serves the building as a teacher, instructional partner, information specialist and program administrator. In coordination with the building administration, instructional coaches, PLC leaders and technology staff, the Library Media Specialist will foster the development of curriculum to include digital literacy, research and reading across the curriculum. The Library Media Specialist will give oversight and logistical support for building wide goals and events.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:
    • Directs and administers the library media program in support of the school improvement plan and provides the knowledge, vision, and leadership to steer it creatively and energetically in the 21st Century (collecting this data).
    • Selects the materials for the library.
    • Supports students & staff in selection of novels for independent reading.
    • Promotes literacy throughout the school.
    • Gives book talks and works with the area's community librarians to bring in special programming and support our students and staff.
    • Brings awareness of information issues into collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and others.
    • Provides leadership and facilitates professional learning for certified and educational support staff.
    • Works with the instructional leadership team to develop policies, practices, and curricula that guide students in developing the full range of information and communication abilities.
    • Collaborates with students and staff to determine learning and informational needs.
    • Keeps current with research and development in program areas to provide leadership for program improvement.
    • Provides support and leadership for specialized programs for staff and students.
    • Assists with development of online curricular resources within all curricular areas.
    • Provides ongoing staff development, training and assistance for staff in the use of technology and classroom technology application.
    • Provides leadership to staff members seeking best practices in instructional technology to present at local, state and national conferences.
    • Brings awareness of information issues into collaborative relationships with teachers, administrators, students, and others
    • Responsible for promotion of building initiatives at the local, statewide, and national levels through speaking and presentation opportunities
    • Perform other tasks assigned by building administration or designee.
