    JOB SUMMARY:

    This class is accountable for performing a full range of supportive and/or paraprofessional tasks in any function of the library including acquisition, cataloging, interlibrary loans, reference and circulation, supervising student helpers, and providing assistance to the District Librarian, teachers, students, and other library users.

    Required Qualifications & Experience:
    • Meet ONE of the following four options:
      • Completed 60 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education or
      • Obtained an associate's degree (or higher) at a regionally accredited institution of higher education or
      • Met a formal State assessment by ONE of the following means:
      • passed the ETS ParaPro assessment (460 or higher) or passed the applicable ACT WorkKeys assessments (Applied Mathematics-4, Reading for Information-4, Writing/Business Writing-3, AND Acceptable on the Instructional Support Inventory which requires observation of an applicant in a classroom setting) or
      • Met State paraprofessional approval PLUS 300 Professional Training Points (PTPs) or passed a rigorous local academic assessment that conforms to federal guidelines or obtained a Library Technology Certificate from an accredited institution or higher education.
    • Preferred: One (1) year of experience in library work.
    • Valid Driver's License & Evidence of Insurability

    Physical Requirements:
    Individuals appointed to these assignments must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the assignment.

    Reports To:
    This job assignment falls under the direction of the District Librarian and a school principal, assistant principal, or other administrator as assigned.

    SALARY RANGE:

    Starting at $21.04/hour

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    1.     8.Basic knowledge of library and information science research tools, techniques, and practices to accomplish tasks such as locating information and materials for students and staff;
    9.Basic knowledge of Dewey Decimal System;

    11.Oral and written communication skills;
    12.Ability to effectively employ a variety of strategies that reinforce positive behavior and apply the principles of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS);
    13.Ability to assist and reinforce elements that support a safe, healthy, and effective teaching and learning environment;
    14.Ability to assist in adapting instructional strategies and materials according to the needs of the student, under the direction of certified staff;
    15.Ability to collect and record attendance data on Infinite Campus for students who serve as library helpers;
    16.Ability to draw on knowledge and resources regarding a variety of developmental and age-appropriate instructional methods, techniques, and materials when supporting the instruction of certified staff;
    17.Ability to establish and maintain rapport with students;
    18.Ability to follow verbal and written direction of licensed teachers, seeking clarification as needed;
    19.Ability to learn and adapt to new technology;
    20.Ability to operate automated, electronic, audio-visual and technology-based hardware, software and equipment;
    21.Ability to prepare and organize materials to support teaching and learning, as directed by certified staff;
    22.Ability to read and interpret routine printed materials such as charts, diagrams, maps, or instructional materials;
    23.Ability to reinforce the development of student social skills by using appropriate strategies to modify the environment;
    24.Ability to use ethical practices for confidential communication about students;
    25.Ability to use the Follett Destiny circulation and catalog systems;
    26.Ability to use strategies that promote student responsibility in following library policies and procedures;
    27.Ability to work with and offer guidance to students with respect to library procedures, policies and provide help with assignments (e.g., paper formatting, and locating materials in the collection);
    28. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the assignment and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.

    1.Check-in and out library material to teachers, staff, and students;
    2.Assists in maintaining and updating Destiny online catalog;
    3.Assists in ordering and processing new materials;
    4.Assists in preparing bibliographies;
    5.Assists in the preparation of library bulletin boards and displays;
    6.Assists in the training of teachers and students in the use of the online catalog and databases;
    7. Assists patrons in locating and using library materials and equipment, answering questions,gathering materials, demonstrating the use of the equipment and operating audiovisual equipment;
    8.Assists with class activities held in the Library/Media Center;
    9.Assists with copyright law compliance for print and electronic resources within the school;
    10.Assists with keeping statistical records on library's usage and circulation;
    11.Supervise students using the library;
    12.Checks student passes;
    13.Assists with the maintenance of the library collection including shelving books, reading shelves, adding and withdrawing items, mending and repairing items and assisting with inventory;
    14. Assists with the planning and development of curriculum/reading-related programs, e.g. AbeLincoln Book Award, Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, and School Library Month and book talks, etc.;
    15.Follows federal and state laws as well as School Board policies, rules and regulations
    16. Fosters an atmosphere that encourages student and faculty to use the library and technology
    17.Handles payment procedures for lost books and equipment;
    18.Helps students and staff locate materials through the use of the Destiny online catalog systems;
    19.Laminates materials and creates posters using the Poster machine;
    20.Maintains a clean, orderly and attractive environment;
    21.Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters, and patron records;
    22.Distribute overdue notices to teachers at least twice a school year while maintaining student
    confidentiality;
    23.Operates technical equipment in the library such as computers, copiers, printers, audiovisualequipment, and closed-circuit television;
    24.Participates in professional activities, meetings, and training programs offered to increase skill and
    proficiency related to assignment;
    25.Perform student monitoring duties that should not exceed 5.5 hours a week;
    • Elementary LMAs will be responsible for one duty during student lunch breaks (15 minutes), 1 cafeteria duty (20 minutes), and dismissal duty (30 minutes)
    • No LMA will have a morning/arrival duty
    26.Submit FixIt Ticket requests as needed;
    27.Work with the District Librarian and IT Department for guided, isolated technology projects;
    28.Support students with technology needs such as resetting Google passwords and troubleshooting
    iPad needs;
    29.Check-in and out loaner iPads;
    30.Abide by and follow the process of iPad repairs outlined by the Technology department.
    31.Maintain contact with technology department regarding student iPad needs;
    32.Performs other duties, as required.
