The College of Pharmacy is looking for a Learning Support Specialist I to serve as a member of the Instructional Technology Services team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience:
  • One year of related experience
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, instructional/educational technology, human resource development, education, or any related field.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
Preferred Experience:
  • Two years or more experience in videoconferencing operations, classroom technology support, and user support in various instructional technologies.
  • Experience in independently learning new software and technologies.
  • Experience proctoring exams or closely monitoring events.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity in video editing software.
  • Excellent problem-solving/troubleshooting, interpersonal, written/oral communication, organizational, and customer service skills; ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to learn new instructional technology applications independently, effectively, and quickly; ability to adapt to changing technologies and priorities; ability to plan and manage projects.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities
Job Responsibilities
  • Serve as an expert user of various instructional technologies implemented at the college, e.g., the learning management system, audience response system, online exam delivery system, and course evaluation system.
  • Provide end-user related technical support to faculty, students, and staff at all college sites when issues arise in the use of various instructional technologies.
  • Resolve faculty technical course delivery issues via telephone, web conferencing, and other remote methods in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations and support of various academic delivery needs, to include: monitor distance connections to ensure they are made successfully and on time
  • Preview computer-based exams and proctor exams; assist in organizing co-curricular activities in College Station (Legislative Day, Disaster Day, Orientation);
  • Host Dean’s Hour Student Forum speakers in College Station; schedule College Station rooms for make-up exams, make-up instruction, and OSCE events; assist with ADA accommodations in College Station.
  • Help maintain integrity of the two campus, one curriculum policy.
  • Assist in editing video files, to include lecture recordings, using appropriate software, e.g., Camtasia Studio and/or Mediasite Web Editor, and posting the edited files in an appropriate file format to the media server.
  • Assist in monitoring the media server and managing the media files to ensure the college does not exceed allotted storage space.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills on evolving instructional technologies and make recommendations on appropriate instructional technologies to evaluate for potential adoption.
  • Help implement these technologies when adopted.
  • Participate on committees and assists with special events as needed.
  • Travel to the main campus as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
