Axia Women's Health is the largest integrated Women's Health Care Group in the United States, comprised of over 275 providers, 100 patient care centers, 4 breast health centers, 2 perinatal testing centers, and 2 central laboratories offering a full spectrum of exceptional care in Obstetrics, Gynecology, Fertility, Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Laboratory Services. Our corporate headquarters is in Voorhees, New Jersey. We are currently recruiting a part time, 40 hour a week Accessioner to work in our Physician Owned Lab (POL) in Oaks, PA. This is a 2nd shift position.

The Laboratory Accessioner is a meticulous individual who is responsible for the receipt, proper identification, documentation, and distribution of medical laboratory specimens, and the distribution of these specimens to the appropriate laboratory division in a time efficient manner. The MLA supports the laboratory by performing other essential tasks including, but not limited to, phone communication with health care professionals, troubleshooting, and management of diagnostic materials. The MLA must be able to use independent judgment and knowledge to perform all related tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives laboratory samples and checks them for accuracy. Ensures that the labels on the specimens coincide with the information provided in the associated requisition or electronic order. Ensures specimens meet all requirements for the test(s) ordered.
  • Retrieves orders in the laboratory information system (LIS) by scanning barcoded specimens and requisitions. Enters information manually when necessary.
  • Properly “Collects” each specimen order and handles specimens according to standard operating procedure.
  • Performs all functions associated with send out tests to include pending orders and researching any additional information utilizing reference laboratory portals and customer service.
  • Receives written and electronic requests from physicians for test add on tests and order changes.
  • Ensures that all specimen handling and accessioning functions and any issues that may have arisen during the preparation process are documented properly in the laboratory information system in accordance to the laboratory’s documentation guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean and well-stocked work area ensuring that hygiene and sanitization standards are consistently upheld.
  • Manages the laboratory inventory to include ordering, storage and adequate supply levels based on utilization and shelf life.
  • Manages samples to ensure filing of slides, blocks and discard of expired samples in an organized and timely manner.
  • Handles hazardous waste management activities in accordance to preset policies and protocols.
  • Manages phone calls and issues with patient samples and result reports.
  • Able to solve most problems and handle difficult situations with little or no supervision. Has both written and oral communicative capabilities to comprehend technical material and communicate with medical professionals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two years experience working within a laboratory testing environment to include Clinical and/ or Anatomic Pathology.
  • Certifications: None
