This is a position as an Ice Cream Quality Tech on 2nd shift at Ice Cream Specialties (a division of Prairie Farms Dairy) in Lafayette, IN. 2nd shift hours: 3 PM-11 PM, Monday - Friday (some mandatory Saturdays during our busy Summer season)

Hourly Rate: $16.30/hr + $1/hr shift premium on 2nd shift.

General Purpose: To test and ensure proper standards for all products to meet company, state and federal guidelines.

Positions Responsibilities:

  • Checking Good Manufacturing Practices procedures
  • Microbiological Testing
  • Weights and Volume Evaluations
  • Organoleptic Evaluations (flavor, texture and color testing)
  • Checking Titration, pH, Brix, Fats, Solids and additional testing as required
  • Checking Metal Detector
  • Inspect product for Proper Labeling and Code Dates
  • Other duties assigned by supervisor


Essential Skills and experience:

  • Average math, writing and reading skills
  • Strong team player
  • Strong computer knowledge; preferably fluent in Microsoft
  • Ability to communicate with Quality Assurance and plant personnel on any QA issues
  • The ability to work overtime and weekends
  • Ability to multitask with positive results


Nonessential Skills
:

Some laboratory experience is preferred. There is a 90-day probationary period. It is important to have good organizational skills.


Work Environment
:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be in a team group setting and must be able to work with several people at a time. The employee must be willing to work in the freezer for up to one hour at a time (-20º). The noise level in the work environment can be extremely loud.


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to be able to work standing for long periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs multiple times a day and stoop, kneel, reach, lift repetitively. This job requires being able to lift approximately 45 lbs and carrying it 50 feet. Hands may be washed more than 10 times a day. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Due to data entry requirements, the employee must have manual dexterity for repetitive keystrokes. This job requires corrected hearing.
