Jr. Predictive Modeling & Simulation Analyst

Description of specific duties in a typical workday for this position:
As an integral part of the Data Science Team under OST’s Strategy and Business Performance unit, you will serve as an analytics coach to one of our Clients’ agile teams to increase the operational effectiveness of the Teams, enable resource savings through advanced analytics, and help our federal customers achieve their missions.
Your duties will include but not limited to;
  • Collect data and prepare data sets, analyze and visualize to gain insights and trends, report and present the analysis results, and maintain databases and information by using OST’s analytical technology stack
  • Develop, validate, test, deploy and maintain simulation and machine learning based models that capture the processes of the agile teams
  • Support Agile teams to optimize their processes, and enable the added value delivery by employing continuous improvement process and data analytics, including root-cause analysis, SMART goal setting, statistical monitoring, predictive modeling, process simulation and quantitative risk analysis
  • Attend Teams’ planning and retrospective sessions, provide sprint /release estimates and high maturity analytics findings
  • Support data management / governance activities by defining metrics / KPIs for measurement analysis, maintaining measurement and analysis repository, updating data definitions & metadata, defining data standards, and monitoring data quality
  • Be a change agent, contribute to increasing the data literacy of the agile Teams and stakeholders
Position Requirements:
  • Education: BA or BS degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or other related field
  • Quantitative skills: Systems thinker with analytical and problem solving aptitude, familiarity with conducting end-to-end analytics; data ingestion, engineering, analysis and presentation by using computer skills
    • Business objective / problem formulation, identification of performance & quality metrics and business KPIs
    • Ingestion of data from multiple sources, data cleaning and tidying
    • Data modeling with relational and non-relational databases
    • Descriptive and inferential statistics familiarity/experience, including data summarization hypothesis testing, multi-variate data analysis and exploratory data analysis
    • Predictive analysis by using statistical modeling, artificial intelligence / machine learning techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning / deep learning techniques
    • Prescriptive analysis by using discrete event stochastic simulations, linear and non-linear programming and multi-criteria decision analysis techniques
    • Data visualization and reporting using business intelligence tools
  • Technical skills: Demonstrated knowledge using software tools, including
    • Monte Carlo / process engineering simulation tools such as Arena, Simul8, Vensim, Powersim, Ithink
    • Collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, GitHub
    • Statistical tools, such as R or Python statistical Machine Learning libraries, @Risk, Minitab, SAS JMP and SPSS
    • Data Extraction, Transforming and Loading (ETL) tools, such as Excel and statistical / BI software such as R, Python data wrangling libraries and other statistical packages
    • Data visualization and reporting tools such as PowerBI, Tableau
    • Query tools such as MS SQL, Aurora, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
    • Familiarity with cloud data management and analytics platforms
    • MS Office tools
  • Research skills: Undertake in-depth research, quantify the information and produce qualitative and quantitative reports and presentations
  • Communication and Presentation skills: Verbal and written communication skills to converse and collaborate with all levels of employees, present the analysis findings and technical matters clearly via reports and oral presentations to clients and senior management
  • Organizational skills: Work under tight schedules, effectively manage and prioritize multiple work assignments
  • Learning skills: Eager to ask questions, ability to take guidance and provide feedback, eager to learn and advance technical knowledge and skills
  • Team work abilities: Work effectively in a team oriented environment, as well as independently in a fast-paced, and changing environment
  • Attention to detail: Pay meticulous attention to detail, factor every piece that might alter the validity of data and analysis results
  • Must be US Citizen

Nice to Have:
  • MS degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or other related field
  • Familiarity with full data science lifecycle, including developing and deploying modeling and simulation based solutions
  • Knowledge on CMMI models and Agile / lean development and service concepts
  • Experience with conducting analysis and developing analytics/AI/ML applications with cloud data management and analytics platforms, such as AWS or Azure
  • Familiarity with data management / data governance best practices
  • Certifications for AWS and/or Azure, and open big data analytics platforms
