Job Summary:

VCU School of Dentistry, Department of Information Technology is seeking enthusiastic, talented candidates to join the web team. The web team is responsible for ensuring engaging mobile and web-based experiences for its departments and users alike. The immediate priority is to build out a brand new School of Dentistry website using a new design provided Key Web Concepts and based on the Compass framework in T4. In the future, this position will provide front-end web development and maintenance for school and department websites utilizing development best practices and web standards expertise. The work environment is creative, fun, and fast paced, so candidates should crave learning new skills, be well organized and have the ability to balance multiple priorities at once. The position or positions will work with the School of Dentistry Application Development Team as well as the School’s Communications Team. The position will need to be able to work independently and within a team environment. The position will need to update their tasks in a timely manner within the Smartsheet project template.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develop a brand new School of Dentistry website
  • Develops and updates web sites while maintaining a consistent university identity on all pieces respective of audience, purpose, quality and production schedule
  • Works closely with, and incorporates feedback from, clients and users, editors, the webmaster and application development team
  • Creates and/or manipulates photos/graphics/illustrations as appropriate
  • Supports other web-based applications and services
  • Proactively looks for ways to improve personal skill-set
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications:
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to build and integrate interactive web sites, applications, and
  • services for both internal and public sites.
  • Experience with technologies used in web site front-ends, including but not limited to HTML, CSS, Ajax, JavaScript, and jQuery.
  • Understanding of testing websites on various browsers, enhancing and modifying them as necessary to ensure the best user experience.
  • Understanding of web standards, CSS-based design, cross-browser compatibility.
  • Familiarity with web and graphics publishing tools (Adobe Photoshop, Visual Studio, T4, etc.).
  • Understanding of and interest in creating websites utilizing the principles of responsive design.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    Excellent time management and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast paced environment.
  • Knowledge of various content management systems to include WordPress and terminal four.
