Focus:

We are looking for an experienced engineer to join our Database Operations practice supporting our private and public-cloud (AWS) infrastructure as well as on-prem and hybrid database service offerings. Primarily responsible for various database administration activities related to management of Oracle [Standard Edition] 19c and MySQL databases (installation, migration, administration, backups, re-orgs, and any additional required maintenance stemming from proprietary application usage). Ensures sound security, integrity controls and monitoring protocols are in place. Works with developers, architects, and assigned personnel; defines and specifies database access, structure, functional capabilities, etc.


Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for refreshing development and test databases from production data. Executes necessary tasks to accomplish this, including export, drop, create, and import using NetApp Snapcenter toolsets.
  • Monitors database performance and works closely with developers and users to tune queries and optimize database performance.
  • Establishes various database objects, such as database procedures, indexes groups and roles in support of database applications and database schema.
  • Plans, coordinates, implements, and supports database systems, working closely with Content production staff to anticipate and meet program requirements for database infrastructure.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation as part of a DBA team (Bi-weekly rotation)
  • Assists in database design and implementation and maintains an understanding of the various databases used in the library content business.
  • Assures systems quality and maintenance of database dictionaries.
  • Develops reports and on-line form images in support of various application programs.
  • Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
  • Modify existing databases and database management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Ability to work closely with systems administrators and developers to develop optimized systems for data access.
  • May be responsible for review, design, and migration of on-prem Oracle workloads to AWS .
  • Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.


Qualifications:

  • 8+ years experience in a professional setting working with relational databases in a business-critical, high-availability context..
  • 2+ years hands on experience in the administration of a RDBMS.
  • 2+ years hands on experience with Oracle databases.
  • Working knowledge of Storage technologies, shell scripting, SQL*Plus or other off the shelf SQL tools.
  • Proficiency writing and maintaining one or more SQL query languages and scripting tools (bash shell, SQL, SQLPLUS, PL/SQL, Python, etc.).
  • Proficiency at the Linux operating system command line (various flavors).
  • Skilled in Database software installation, upgrades, and patching
  • Skilled in interviewing users/developers and identifying their needs.
  • Understand and interpret infrastructure requirements such as Networking, Storage, and Hardware Optimization.
  • Implementation and tuning experience of Databases including knowledge of Schema Design, Query Tuning and Optimization, and Data Migration and Integrations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Additional PLUS: Experience with NetApp Storage solutions.
  • Additional PLUS: Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Amazon RDS.
  • Additional PLUS: Experience in AWS Cloud provisioning, AWS RDBMS solutions, DBaaS, or a willingness to learn.
