Dr. Squatch Brea, CA

$90,000 - $100,000 a year

Why We Exist and What We Do:

At Dr. Squatch (www.drsquatch.com) we're raising the bar on men's personal care with our line of natural, high-performance products. We're on a high-growth, fast-moving ride, continually introducing new product categories, launching into retailers nationwide, and growing internationally. We recently earned a Great Place to Work® Certification™ and are looking for passionate, talented people who want to join us in our mission to inspire and educate men to be happier and healthier!

About the Role:

Dr. Squatch's new facility – 'Bricc City' – in Brea, CA, is expanding manufacturing operations, and to support these efforts, we are looking for an Industrial Engineer to join Team Squatch that wants to continue to improve and innovate the "art" of cold-process soap making.

We want to build a strong manufacturing engineering and continuous improvement team and need talented engineers, with real-world shop floor manufacturing experience, process improvement mindset, and process optimization backgrounds, to form our new manufacturing engineering and continuous improvement group. This role would fill the industrial engineering function, supporting production goals and performance but also contributing to the broader needs of the rest of the organization. This role would help build, participate in, and support the continuous improvement program and our plan to radically innovate the way we make cold process soap at scale.

To be successful in this role, you will need to: draw on your shop floor manufacturing experience in this or other adjacent industries (e.g. food and beverage, cosmetics, CPG, personal care, etc.); be a fast learner to rapidly develop a deep understanding of our existing processes; think strategically and execute efficiently; utilize continuous improvement tools and approaches to support the improvement goals of the manufacturing organization; while effectively managing the day-to-day activities of the industrial engineering function. In addition, you will need to be an outstanding communicator, who can collaborate cross-functionally, manage a program of work with external parties, and facilitate efficient, data-driven decision-making.

This role will report to Director of Manufacturing Innovation & Engineering.

This is a full-time role with company benefits based in Brea, CA.

The anticipated base compensation range for this role will be $90,000 to $100,000. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and local market rates.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and lead initiatives to measure, assess and enhance production capabilities and performance to new levels
  • Determine shop floor rates and expected throughput to establish headcount requirements and productivity levels
  • Designing production processes that maximize efficiency and reduce waste; managing process documentation and preparing production reports
  • Develop and implement production standards in cooperation with management and production floor teammates and train on new processes and methods
  • Identify, prioritize and drive transformational (radical innovation) projects such as: new automation solutions; plant layout and material handling process changes, product flow and ergonomically friendly solutions, etc.
  • Review and analyze options and create justifications for appropriate capital equipment and associated expenses, and manage implementation of said equipment
  • Recommend the best manufacturing method, tolerances, choice of components, or construction to accomplish function and minimize cost
  • Preparing material and equipment lists, purchase orders, cost analyses, and estimated project savings
  • Improve manufacturing process by analyzing workflow, space requirements and equipment layout with the goal of cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency gain
  • Work with cross-functional teams (Strategic Operations, Finance, etc.) to develop and support execution of capital plans to maintain and upgrade equipment including the introduction of new technology and equipment
  • Participate in and lead as necessary department kaizen, 5S, 3P, and brainstorming events
  • Help create and formalize the foundations for motivating and driving a culture of high standards, sustained safety and optimized performance to ensure rapid and sustainable continuous improvement delivery and maintain alignment with the Dr. Squatch mission

About You:

We're looking for an engineer with proven manufacturing support experience and a strong continuous improvement mindset; someone who can help develop and execute the build-out of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility from the ground up and who can also work collaboratively to support the day-to-day operations at our facility. You would also participate in and help develop and launch a robust continuous improvement program. A background in Lean/6 Sigma including but not limited to: 5S/Visual Controls, SMED, TPM, VSM, Proactive Root Cause Problem Solving, Kaizen, Standard Work, Performance Measurement and Management, and waste elimination techniques is preferred but with a focus on real-world application and experience versus "framework" dogma. Experience implementing engineering projects from conception to realization, using data to track and determine appropriate improvements, and successfully implementing process control mechanisms are critical to a successful candidate.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, e.g.: Industrial Engineering or Process Engineering
  • Required: minimum 5+ years of manufacturing experience (production, engineering, continuous improvement, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of production machinery, processes, and standards
  • Demonstrated experience driving small/large change in a manufacturing environment, using practical Lean/Continuous Improvement tools and methodologies
  • Outstanding communication (oral and written) skills, with ability to: train and communicate with production floor teammates, collaborate effectively with peers across multiple areas of the business, communicate effectively and efficiently with external partners (suppliers etc.), and ability to efficiently communicate upwards with senior business leaders
  • Detailed, organized, structured and efficient problem solver, troubleshooting skills with an attention to detail, and able to quickly identify the most important things to focus on in an environment where things are rapidly changing every day
  • Demonstrated excellence using data driven approaches to monitoring performance, developing and acting on KPIs
  • Fast-paced learner, problem-solver and self-starter, comfortable operating in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to balance short-term tactical priorities, with a long-term strategic mindset
  • Interest in health and wellness, personal care, and/or eCommerce industries
  • Experience working in the consumer products industry is highly preferred
  • Someone who gets things done without perfect resources is innovative and works with a sense of urgency
  • Someone who has high standards takes ownership and is invested in the outcome
